Catholic Schools Week

St. Mary School had a fun-filled week of service, learning and fun in celebration of this year’s Catholic Schools Week. The theme was “Everyday Heroes” and the school is challenged to both recognize those around us who serve and to be an everyday hero itself.

The students became “Secret Servers” and did random acts of kindness throughout the week. Parents commented all over Facebook about the strange behavior of their children.

Margaret Frisco said, “I think I brought the wrong child home from school. This ‘Dominic’ I brought home from school did his homework without arguing and even set the table for dinner. Who is this kid?”

The school took up collections for local service organizations including Help Me Color A Rainbow, the Geauga Dog Warden and the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

Since 1974, National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. It starts the last Sunday in January and runs all week, which in 2018 is Jan. 28 – Feb. 3. The theme for the National Catholic Schools Week 2018 is “Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.”

The parents and PTU hosted a free pancake breakfast on Sunday to thank the parish of St. Mary Chardon for all their support.

Throughout the week, the students were treated to “super” activities including a free donut breakfast, a performance from Jasmine Dragons and a visit from the Medevac helicopter. The junior high hosted a STEMnival featuring roller coaster and arcade games of their own creation.

All students took the week to focus on learning how to be super people everyday and to celebrate their Catholic education. Registration is now open for all classes preschool through eighth grade.
