Sheriff’s Report
March 15, 2018

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office March 2-8, 2018. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 396 calls during this seven-day period.

AGENCY ASSIST

March 8

2:56 p.m., Merritt Road, Munson. Chester PD needs assistance at the hospital with a combative prisoner. Hospital called; they found marijuana on subject.

FOUND PROPERTY

March 8

4:27 p.m., Madison Road, Middlefield. Coming to Post 1 from Middlefield. Found a packet of lottery tickets and believe they are stolen. Found in vacant business on Madison Road. Contacted Ohio Lottery. A security staff member advised he will pick the tickets up from the sheriff’s office and further investigate the incident.

FRAUD

March 4

12:40 p.m., Cardinal Drive, Troy. Phone calls about taking caller to jail if she does not pay a bill. Caller advised of phone calls from scammers pretending to be from the U.S. government. Advice given. Clear.

March 8

2:57 p.m., Music Street, Newbury. Needs to make a report regarding a fraudulent withdrawal of $5,000 from her checking account. Report taken.

LITTERING

March 2

6:13 p.m., Mayfield Road, Huntsburg. Someone is using caller’s dumpster. Deputy spoke with caller who stated someone came onto his property and filled his 3×5 metal garbage container with drywall. Caller does not know who did this and just wanted the incident documented. Will call back after he sets up cameras and if they return.

LOITERING

March 7

6:47 p.m., South State Avenue, Middlefield. Male is here loitering. Was told by my employer to call the police if he came in here. He has baggy clothes and black shaggy hair. He carries a banjo with him.

SUSPICIOUS

March 2

3:07 p.m., Paradise Drive, Middlefield. Postal carrier reporting a teenage boy was aiming a gun, most likely a toy at her on Paradise. Gun looked plastic black and orange, like a rifle. She is back at the post office now, so this was like 30 minutes ago. Per deputy, child was playing with a toy “Wii” gun outside and advised to keep it inside.

March 3

11:43 p.m., Washington Street, Auburn. Out at boat ramp with an occupied vehicle. Female sitting in vehicle stated she had a verbal argument with a friend over life and politics. She said she just wanted to take a drive and relax before she returned home. She stated she is fine and just needed some fresh air. Cleared without incident.

THEFT

March 4

9:29 a.m., Kinsman Road, Burton. Someone stole all of the copper from the house. Report taken.

March 6

4:27 p.m., Tavern Road, Parkman. Theft of moneybox from ice cream stand.

4:28 p.m., Old State Road, Middlefield. Theft of moneybox from ice cream stand.

4:53 p.m., Aquilla Road, Claridon. Theft of $9,000 from director’s desk within the last few minutes. Caller left the room for a moment and returned to find all the checks missing. While investigating complaint, missing property was located. Complainant does, however, believe the property was moved.

THREATENING

March 5

10:32 a.m., Bass Lake Road, Munson. Last week a male threatened to clear a lane in the pool for himself with a gun. See report.
