Sheriff’s Report
March 22, 2018

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office March 9-15, 2018. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 334 calls during this seven-day period.

ANIMAL PROBLEM

March 11

2:43 p.m., Robinson Road, Chardon. On Woodin, just east of Robinson Road, there is a raccoon up in a tree. People are stopping to look at it and caller feels it is an accident waiting to happen. OK in tree, not a hazard.

CITIZEN DISPUTE

March 14

2:53 p.m., Loring Avenue, Aquilla. Neighbor dispute over pushing snow in the ditch. Spoke to both callers. Caller will stop pushing snow across the street. Both parties will stay away from each other.

DRUGS

March 14

5:12 p.m., Madison Road, Middlefield. 21-year-old male is upstairs smoking marijuana. He was told not to do so, but has refused to stop. Summons issued.

FOUND PROPERTY

March 13

11:51 a.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Lost prevention employee from PNC Bank advised they are doing their safety box drilling and found two weapons inside safety boxes when they were going through them. Possible owners of said weapons known. Glock and a Baretta. Deputy advised. Two handguns turned over for safekeeping.

FRAUD

March 14

6:15 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. $100 charge on caller’s bank statement from GCSO. She doesn’t know where the charge came. Report taken.

JUVENILE PROBLEM

March 12

7:46 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Check with parents of a Munson Elementary student. Principal just received an anonymous tip that while riding the bus a fifth-grader asked another student, “Do you want to see my gun?” Caller believed he could be carrying it with him. Spoke with student and his parents. He said he did not make statements about having a gun; he was talking with a friend on the school bus and was only looking at a magazine with guns in it. He showed deputies the magazine with the images of the guns in it. Deputy contacted the principal and informed her what boy had said happened. See report for further details.

OVERDOSE

March 11

11:46 a.m., Merritt Road, Munson. Heroin OD. Patient is breathing. Took heroin a few minutes ago. Meet in intake. Deputy advised of call. STAFF page sent. Inmate.

SUSPICIOUS

March 9

11:09 a.m., Tavern Road, Burton. Caller is saying the government is messing with her. She wants to file a report because she said the government wants her to kill. Dispatch attempted call back, no answer. Corner of Tavern and Erwin.

March 10

3:57 a.m., Tavern Road, Burton. Woman screaming on the line that “the government is f&%$ing with her head.” Very irate. Squad to scene. Female voluntarily transported to the ER for evaluation. Female thought the government was trying to control her using sound waves.

THEFT

March 10

12:45 p.m., Old State Road, Middlefield. Someone stole his outdoor freezer. He does not want to meet with a deputy until after 1:30 p.m. Deputy advised. Report taken.

March 15

5:34 p.m., Linda Drive, Newbury. Fraudulent use of a debit card in the amount of $100. Report taken.

THREATENING      

March 12

4:36 p.m., Bell Street, Newbury. Male in lobby to report threatening/menacing that happened on the internet. Male was engaged in a conversation with several individuals on Facebook regarding Newbury Schools. Deputy did not observe any threats to harm complainant. However, complainant’s attorney recommended complainant file a report. Deputy attached Facebook conversations to report.

WARRANT SERVICE

March 9

4:09 a.m., Ravenna Road, Claridon. Hospital security advised male is ready for pick up. Male refused to be placed in handcuffs. Male head-butted his head against a hospital door and then on the floor and refused to give deputies his wrists so he could be handcuffed. Male was later handcuffed and medically cleared after incident, and then transported to jail.
