Sheriff’s Report
March 29, 2018

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office March 16-22, 2018. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 363 calls during this seven-day period.

ANIMAL PROBLEM

March 18

12:44 a.m., Ravenwood Drive, Munson. Female walked into GCSO to advise a horse is walking northbound on Route 44 by doctors’ offices across from hospital. Horse was located trying to enter University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center’s ER. A few people are holding the horse right now. Deputies were able to catch the horse and because of the cold temperatures and unable to find anywhere to hold the horse for the night, Sgt. Graley made arrangements to keep the horse tied up in the Safety Center sally port for the remainder of the night.

CITIZEN DISPUTE

March 20

12:02 p.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. Customer took $600 worth of tires without paying. She took her car. Caller followed her to Chardon PD. They are in parking lot now. Deputy advised. Female half stated she paid for half and they agreed to payments for the remainder. Female purchased the vehicle and they put new tires on the vehicle and she paid for half of them. Advice was given. Owner will complete the needed paperwork and repo the vehicle.

EXTRA PATROL

March 18

1:35 p.m., Fincherie Drive, Chardon. Found a fish head in the mailbox. He will move his security camera onto the mailbox. Advised to call if he sees anything else suspicious.

March 20

4:56 p.m., Auburn Road, Newbury. Caller is requesting a deputy to supervise the board meeting at 7 p.m. Protests are not expected to happen this evening. Everything checks OK, no problems.

FISH & GAME

March 17

4:58 a.m., Kinsman Road, Burton. Caller says he has trapped an opossum on his porch and would like advice. Animal is living under complainant’s porch. Animal not sick and was eating the cat food and drinking the cat’s water. Advice given.

FRAUD

March 18

11:27 a.m., Main Market Road, Parkman. Caller had a check that was for cash and ex-girlfriend took the check and signed her name to it and cashed it. Incident took place in Garrettsville, so complainant was advised to contact Garrettsville PD. Clear.

March 19

4:28 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. IR requested. Male sent $600 to a person he thought was a landlord of noted address. He went to the house to find another couple was renting it. Report to follow.

March 20

8:38 p.m., Bundysburg Road, Parkman. Fraud on station for $6,000. Report taken.

March 22

1:41 p.m., Newcomb Road, Middlefield. They received $50 in counterfeit money. No description of person or vehicle. Spoke with the owner who received several $1 and $2 bills that looked fake. Upon examination the bills appear to be original. All serial numbers were different. Party was advised to double check with the bank and contact GCSO if they are determined to be fake.

HARASSMENT

March 19

11:20 a.m., Bass Lake Road, Newbury. Social media. Spoke with complainant in the lobby. She advised a former friend has photos of them that they took together on his Facebook page that she does not want him to have up. Complainant advised she tried contacting him to take photos down, but he has now blocked her from his Facebook page and also blocked her on his phone. Complainant wanted to know if anything could be done. Complainant was advised nothing could be done because she voluntarily took the photos with him and because they were his property so he has the right to have the photos posted in his Facebook page if he wants. Advice given.

March 22

5:42 p.m., Claridon Troy Road, Burton. Meet at front door a professor has been receiving harassing emails from a student. Spoke with caller and another person and both said one of the professors at the university has been receiving emails from one of her students. Emails were shown to the dean of the university and she was instructed to contact GCSO and document this incident. See report for further details.

INTOXICATED PERSON

March 18

4:10 p.m., Ravenna Road, Claridon. 54-year-old intoxicated female is walking out the ER door against medical advice and with an IV still in. She currently is .329 and has been instructed if she leaves deputies can arrest her for public intoxication. She has refused to follow hospital’s orders. Female arrested, report completed.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

March 19

7:57 p.m., Madison Road, Huntsburg. The Amish sugar shack was destroyed. Stop at the house and complainant will take the deputy back. Complainant believes damages occurred March 18 in the afternoon hours. No evidence to be collected or suspects. Two broken windows and a broken thermometer; no theft. Advised to tell neighbors and have them keep an eye on it as the shack is approximately 1 mile from residence.

TRAFFIC OFFENSE

March 16

6:49 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Deputy advises he is in an unmarked. There is a vehicle throwing beer cans out the window. It passed him on double yellow Burton Windsor. Citation issued.
