Sheriff’s Report
April 12, 2018

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office March 30 through April 5, 2018. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 322 calls during this seven-day period.

ANIMAL PROBLEM

March 30

5:19 p.m., Taylor Wells Road, Claridon. Llama walking in the road. Deputy and some citizens were able to get the llama back into the pasture. Owner was advised to secure the gate and was issued a warning for animals at large. Advice given.

April 4

5:04 p.m., Ravenna Road, Munson. Home on 44 between Best Sand and Black Lab, there is a bunch of rabbits all over the front yard and they are about to go into the road. The front door may be open. Caller did not want to stop at the house; property was in disrepair and “not very welcoming.” Spoke to owner and he advised rabbits are semi-wild and not kept in cages. Rabbits were not in the roadway, but close.

BURGLARY

April 2

3:33 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Sometime over the weekend, possibly Friday, garage door was found about five inches. Two quad 4-wheelers.

CITIZEN ASSIST

March 30

8:43 a.m., Stafford Road, Auburn. Caller advised her adult son is on drugs. He is hallucinating. He broke all of the TVs in the house. He is violent. He currently is in the basement. He is a meth addict. He said “voices” are telling him to do things. He took all of the electronics in the house and disassembled them. He will fight with police. There are guns in the house, but they are all locked up. He does not have access to them. He currently is in basement disassembling the phones and other computers. Father advised he used meth last Saturday and believes he may have been up since then. It is unconfirmed though. He does not have access to any vehicles. Hospital advised. Transported to UH Geauga. Clear.

8:56 p.m., Leggett Road, Montville. Caller states he replied to an ad in the paper for a female that needed a place to stay. She has been at his house for four days and thinks she can tell him what to do and believes the caller is her companion. He does not know the female other than for the last four days. She is at the house now. He believes she is not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He would just like her to leave and she is refusing. Deputy spoke with homeowner. Female cooperated and left without any issues.

DOMESTIC DISPUTE

March 30

8:28 p.m., Bean Road, Munson. Caller states his daughter and son-in-law have lived in hi house for three months and they are constantly verbally abusing him and his wife. Caller has left the house and gone to his brother’s. Verbal dispute between father and daughter. No threats were made. Advice given.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

March 31

1 a.m., Mumford Road, Troy. 29-year-old male on something. Tearing up the house. Caller said he broke a lamp and such. Multiple people inside the residence. Male keeps threating father and his mother. Male has drug history. No one is hurt. Male screaming he does not care, just take him to jail. Male is escalating the situation; keeps trying to fight. Male in living room. Threats to kill father. Male transported to jail. Report taken.

FRAUD

March 31

12:35 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Someone used counterfeit money at the gas station. They have it on camera. Report taken.

HARASSMENT

March 30

12:47 p.m., Radcliffe Road, Hambden. Someone from Pakistan keeps calling complainant. She would like a report from a deputy. Advice provided.

INJURED PERSON

April 1

9:21 p.m., Wilson Mills Road, Munson. Intoxicated male jumped out of moving vehicle and hit his head, bleeding. Male had one bottle of wine; no drug use.

OVERDOSE

March 31

8:21 p.m., Paradise Drive, Middlefield. 33-year-old male overdose. Drug of choice is heroin. CPR in progress. Male was down for at least five minutes. No one in the house has Narcan. Hospital advised of police hold and warrant. Male overdosed on heroin. Admission obtained. Syringe seized. Charges pending. Warrant through Trumbull County. Hospital notified.

April 2

12:03 p.m., Thwing Road, Chardon. Teenage daughter took 14 synthroid pills. This was intentional. She has anxiety. She has never attempted suicide before. Deputy advised. Juvenile female advised she took 14-15 pills of her thyroid meds. Advised she wanted to “end it all.” Transported by FD to Hillcrest. Mother advised about probate at ER.

POSSIBLE DUI

March 31

3:39 a.m., Chardon Road, Chardon. Jeep in the ditch at Route 6 and Auburn. Driver has been drinking. Female who called auto body is the mother of the driver and told auto body driver has been drinking tonight. Male driver charged with OVI. Report taken.

SUSPICIOUS

March 30

8:41 a.m., Paulette Drive, Burton. Female stopped in the lobby to report something suspicious. She then left the sheriff’s office. She told the records division it was in reference to a suspicious line that was in the snow. Dispatch tried calling the cell number listed on her name’s file with a different address. Message left. Deputy advised. No vehicles in drive and no answer at door.

5:49 p.m., Kile Road, Montville. Caller found a Coors Light can in their front yard that has been shot and there is birdshot in the years. They think someone came into their yard and was target shooting. Deputy observed the can and determined it to be old. Complainant just wanted it documented. Advice given.

10:10 p.m., Farmington Road, Parkman. Received a suspicious call from a male named Jim advising he would be stopping over to drop off some pot. They don’t know who Jim is and feel the call is suspicious. Deputy met with complainant who played a voicemail referencing bringing some pot. Refer to report disposition.

March 31

9:29 p.m., Old State Road, Middlefield. Caller believes someone is walking outside the property and throwing his wheelbarrow around. Caller believes the drug gangs are upset with him. Complainant reported hearing the chain link making noise and stated he uses the chain to secure his belongings. He then stated the drug gangs have shot a laser at his legs causing him to have difficulty walking. He declined any services and stated he was going to bed.

April 1

7:19 p.m., Grove Road, Troy. Will be out with two Amish males walking down the road; one is carrying a beer can. Male issued two summonses.

April 2

9:40 p.m., Nauvoo Road, Middlefield. Caller believes someone is attempting to break into the icehouse across the street from caller’s house. Caller can’t see the color of the car. There is a male walking over to the icehouse now. Vehicle is pulling out. MPD stopped the vehicle and learned it was a parent disciplining their child. Spoke with caller who advised ice house checked OK.

THEFT

March 31

12:35 p.m., Princeton Road, Huntsburg. We have started an internal investigation due to 22 Percocets that came up missing from a resident’s medical card. We have tested five nurses already and we believe we know who it is. I have spoken with that nurse and advised them to come see me on Monday. That nurse quit while on the phone. Report taken.

April 5

12:39 p.m., Sherman Road, Munson. At the township road department two radios were stolen. Report taken. Clear.

VANDALISM

April 3

3:46 p.m., Burrows Road, Thompson. Kids took fire extinguishers and discharged them in a bus and threw them in a field. Deputy advised. See report.
