Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, half price bag day.

Donate to Food Pantry
The Geauga Veterans Food Pantry needs donations of canned goods, nonperishables and paper products.
Bring donations to the Middlefield VFW Post 9678,16013 E. High St., Middlefieldby the canteen door through May 16. Donations may also be mailed to: VFW Post 9678, 11374 Clay St., Huntsburg, OH 44046.
Chardon VFW Post 6519 is also collecting donations and has a red food box in the canteen located at 752 Water St.
Golf League Preseason Dinner
April 27, 6 p.m.
Hemlock Springs Friday Night Couples League is having a preseason dinner at Grand River Cellars. The golf league starts May 4.

West G Senior Talent Show
April 27, 7:30 p.m.
West Geauga After Prom is sponsoring the annual Senior Talent Show in the West Geauga Middle School gym. Come to show early to see art exhibits by senior artists.
The talent show is open to all West G high school students. Tickets are $5 at the door.
Come before the show for the Beck Thompson pasta dinner benefit being held from 5-7 p.m. at the middle school. Dinner tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children.
Audubon Cruises to Conneaut
April 28, 8 a.m.
Blackbrook Audubon will bird the lakeshore for early migrants starting in Conneaut Harbor. The group will proceed to Walnut Beach in Ashtabula to check for land birds such as hermit thrush, kinglets and swallows. Bring binoculars, a spotting scope and dress for the weather.

Bluegrass Jamboree
April 28, 6-10:30 p.m.
Hambden Grange is hosting Mark Posey’s Bluegrass Jamboree, featuring bands M & M Express and Young & Blue. The Grange is located at 9778 Old State Road, Chardon.
Tickets are $10 at the door and food stand is available.
Auburn Spring Plant Sale
Auburn Career Center’s Landscape Horticulture spring plant sale will begin April 30 at 10985 Girdled Road, right behind the high school. Sale hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30-10:30 a.m. and 12-2 p.m. while supplies last.
A wide variety of plants and Proven Winners hanging baskets will be available. Cash and checks are accepted.

Geauga Dems Discuss Fake News
May 3
The Geauga County Democratic Party will host a taco and salad bar served with a hot topic – “Fake News: What the Public Needs to Know Going into the 2018 Elections” – at the Geauga County Democratic Headquarters and Social Hall located at 12420 Kinsman Road, Newbury. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. for networking followed by dinner at 6:15 p.m. and the hot topic at 7 p.m.
Join in a conversation with Janet Leach, associate professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Kent State University and director of Kent’s Media Law Center for Ethics and Access. Learn what to look for, what to watch for and how best to expose fake versus honest media.

GEL Breakfast
May 4, 7:30-9 a.m.
Professor David Ward, Herrick Endowed Chair of Plant Biology, Kent State University, will present “The Hidden Invasive Species: Multiple Roles of Native Invasive Plants” at the next Geauga Economic Leadership (G.E.L.) Breakfast at Kent State University’s Geauga Campus, 14111 Claridon Troy Road, Burton.
Learn about the ecological effects of native invasives and their impacts on natural communities. Hear about the research that has been conducted in Africa, as well as at Kent State University.
Breakfast and networking begin at 7:30 a.m. Free and open to the public. Registration is appreciated.

Free Guided Tours
The Geauga County Historical Society will offer free public tours of its buildings and grounds on Saturdays, May 5 through Oct. 7, with the exception of the Saturdays during the Antique Power Exhibition, Raccoon County Music Festival and Apple Butter Festival.
Tours are scheduled at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Space is limited on each tour and the public will be served on a first-come, first-served basis. The tours will be about 90 minutes to two hours in length.

50 Gun Bash
May 12, 11 a.m.
Ducks Unlimited 50 Gun Bash will be held at the Geauga County Fairgrounds, 14373 N. Cheshire St. in Burton
The main raffle will be drawn at 1 p.m. and the last at 5:30 p.m. One gun will be given away every five minutes. Food served from 1-4 p.m.
Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Tickets are available at all Great Lakes Outdoor Supply stores or from any Ducks Unlimited committee member. Gun list is posted on www.NortheastOhioDU.com and winner’s list will be posted after May 15.
