Dairy Goat Show

May 19 and 20, 9 a.m.

The Western Reserve Dairy Goat Association’s 34th annual weekend of shows will be held at the Geauga County Fairgrounds, Burton. The shows are officially sanctioned by the American Dairy Goat Association for registered dairy goat breeds and are open to the public.

Saturday begins with open youth showmanship classes followed by open senior doe and junior doe shows and two rings of open buck shows. Sunday begins with an open senior doe show followed by an open junior doe show. For more information, call 440-298-3464 or email jmhr2001@yahoo.com.

SNPJ Farm Picnic Schedule

Slovenska Narodna Podporna Jednota (Slovenian National Benefit Society) is hosting a pancake and sausage breakfast May 20 from 9 a.m. to noon at the farm located at 10946 Heath Road in Kirtland. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under.

On May 28, the farm will host a holiday dance from 1-7 p.m. featuring the Don Wojtila Band and Fred Ziwich ISM. Gates open at noon. Food will be catered by Joe Tavcar.

Rolling Thunder Blessing

May 20, 9:45 a.m.

Hambden Congregational Church will hold a patriotic service and bike blessing with Rolling Thunder at 13840 GAR Hwy., Hambden Township. All are welcome, two wheels or four wheels, rain or shine.

Motorcycles will depart from Chardon Square at 9:45 a.m. The church service will begin at 10:15 a.m.

A potluck picnic will follow at Hambden Township Park. Please bring a dish to share. The church will provide burgers, hot dogs and drinks. The Chardon VFW will grill and the Young Marines will participate with Jack Martin on bagpipes.

Protect Geauga Parks

May 20, 1:30-3:30 p.m.

Join Protect Geauga Parks for a Conservation Conversation – “ “Vernal Pools – Diamonds in the Rough” – at West Geauga Public Library, 13455 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township.

Guest speaker is Ray Stewart, Ohio Wetlands Association. He will discuss the wonder, beauty and importance of vernal pools.

Veterans Memorial Service

May 20, 3 p.m.

The Russell Township Veterans Memorial Servicewill honor all veterans at Briar Hill meeting hall at the southwest corner of Chillicothe and Fairmount roads.

Justice William O’Neill, a Vietnam veteran, will be the guest speaker.

Many participate in this program sponsored by the Russell Historical Society. The Burton-Middlefield American Legion will present colors and give a gun salute to honor veterans, accompanied by a bugler. Boy Scout Troop 193 will participate in the flag ceremonies.

All are welcome. Refreshments will be served after the service.

Garden Club Plant Sale & Boutique

May 26, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Gates Mills Garden Club hosts its second annual plant sale and vintage boutique at 1280 Chagrin River Road, Gates Mills. The sale features wide variety of perennials, annuals, shrubs and houseplants from club gardeners as well as gardening and flower arranging items.

Century Village Trunk Sale

May 26, 10 a.m.to 5 p.m.

Geauga County Historical Society will hold its second annual Trunk Sale on the grounds of Century Village Museum, 14653 E. Park St. in Burton.

To reserve a space for $25, contact Terri at 440-834-1492. The number of spaces is limited. Sellers will be provided with an assigned site and may sell out of their vehicle’s trunk or from their own tables. Members of the Society may obtain a space at no charge.No admission will be charged to the buying public.

GEL Breakfast

Guest speaker Vince Slusarz, founder of Gotta Groove Records, will discuss the return of vinyl records at the next Geauga Economic Leadership (G.E.L.) Breakfast at Kent State University’s Geauga Campus, 14111 Claridon Troy Road, Burton.

Tail-Waggin’ Good Time

Geauga County Recorder Sharon C. Gingerich, state Rep. Sarah LaTourette and the Totally Dogs 4-H Club will be hosting the 10th annual Tail-Waggin’ Good Time benefit dinner and silent auction for the Geauga County Dog Shelter and the Geauga County K9 Unit at St. Helen’s Church, 12060 Kinsman Road, Newbury Township.

Pancakes and Planes

June 2, 8 a.m. to noon

Chapter 5 of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) will host its ninth annual pancake breakfast at the Classic Jet Center at Lost Nation Airport, 1969 Lost Nation Road, Willoughby. Pilots are encouraged to “fly-in for some flapjacks” and all others are welcome to enjoy “pancakes and planes.”

Airplane rides for kids ages 8 to 17 will be offered through the EAA’s Young Eagles Program. Parental permission required. See local aircraft and meet the pilots.

Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for kids ages 3 to 12 and free for children under 3. All proceeds benefit EAA Chapter 5.

PCC Rummage Sale

The annual Pilgrim Christian Church Rummage Sale will be held at the church located at 202 South Hambden St. on Chardon Square. The sale includes all types of clothing, linens, household furnishings and much more.

Spaghetti Luncheon Fundraiser

June 3, 12-3 p.m.

Support Geauga Faith Rescue Mission and homeless in Geauga County by attending the spaghetti dinner and bake sale at Parkman Congregational Church, 18265 Madison Road. Cost is by donation.

Wool Hollow Art & Quilt Fest

June 3, 12-4 p.m.

The Wool Hollow Art & Quilt Fest takes place on the green at Chesterland Historical Village on the village green located at the corner of Caves and Mayfield roads.

Music will be provided from 12:30-1:30 p.m. with vocalist Rick Sokul on his acoustical guitar. Something new this year will be the Bus Stop food truck for lunch options.

Artisans and crafters will be on the village green and all the vintage buildings will be open for tours. The event is free.

GCRTA Meeting

June 5, 11 a.m.

The Geauga County Retired Teachers Association will meet at the E.O.U.V. Club, 8636 Pekin Road. Gathering time will be followed by a short business meeting and a chicken schnitzel lunch at noon.  Attendees may also participate in the 50/50 raffle and the free lunch drawing.

Fairmount Center for the Arts will present the program.  Students and professionals will entertain with a vocal performance of favorites from “The Music Man” followed by a dance performance.

Troop 193 Boy Scout Info Night

June 5, 7-8:15 p.m.

Troop 193 is holding an informational meeting at West Geauga Rec Camp for anyone interested in learning more about scouting. Boy Scouts is open to all boys ages 11-17. There will be a fun activity with campfire snack.  .

Troop 193 is an active troop holding monthly outings and summer options, including summer camp and high adventure treks.

Spring Rummage Sale

June 7-9

Christ Covenant Church, 16406 Kinsman Road in Middlefield, is holding a spring rummage sale to benefit Charity Children’s Ministry. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 7 and 8 and 9 a.m. to noon on June 9.

Little Hot Shots Soccer Camp

Little Hot Shots is offering two sessions of camp open to boys and girls ages 4-9 years old. Cost is $25 per camper and includes a T-shirt and snack

The fun and interactive event is a fundraiser for WGHS boys soccer and directed by nationally licensed soccer coach Bruce Fedor, USSF level C.
