Sheriff’s Report
June 6, 2018

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office May 25-31, 2018. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 510 calls during this seven-day period.

AGENCY ASSIST

May 27

4:13 p.m., Walnut Street, Mentor-on-the-Lake. Bomb squad called out for grenade found in a house. Crew working rehabbing a home was tearing down a wall when grenade fell out of the wall and also some 308-caliber bullets. One of workers moved grenade to an out building. Once grenade was secured K-9 Argo was deployed to search the rest of the house and the garage for more explosives. None located and crew advised they could return to work on the house.

CITIZEN DISPUTE

May 29

5:59 p.m., Edgewater Drive, Newbury. Caller reports female is texting her neighbor that she’s having sex with someone. Caller advised if there is an issue with female texting a neighbor, the neighbor could report the issue. Deputy spoke with complainant about ongoing issues. Today, female messaged a neighbor of the complainant and made a comment about the complainant sleeping with the neighbor’s husband. Complainant requested deputy contact female and ask her to stop talking about the complainant. Complainant was given advice. Deputy attempted to call female but did not get an answer.

FIREWORKS

May 26

10:12 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Caller states on the patio at Zeppe’s there is a guy who shot off 2 M80s on the patio. Caller stated manager did nothing so she left. She feels he is a danger. Deputy spoke with manager, who stated patron set the firework off in the field to the northeast of building. She said she asked those patrons to leave when she learned who it was. Advice provided. UTL person at fault.

FOUND PROPERTY

May 30

8:29 a.m., Merritt Road, Munson. On April 27 complainant found a $50 bill on sidewalk in front of the building.

JUVENILE PROBLEM

May 25

10:41 a.m., Auburn Road, Newbury. 12-year-old female may or may not have consumed alcohol in the school. She posted she had some and none has been located. Would like a deputy to assist in this issue. Juvenile checked OK. School handling.

SUSPICIOUS

May 25

7:43 a.m., Hayes Road, Middlefield. Lady came to caller’s house stating her Internet was disrupting her banking app. Caller did not give out any information. Would like a report. Lady who came to her door was driving small yellow compact car.

11:38 a.m., Burton Windsor Road, Middlefield. There were 3-4 guys here that work with my boys and they pushed my wife and daughter against the wall. They were asking for money. They worked with my boys and they cashed a check and it didn’t process through. He asked for another check and they took off. We don’t need a rescue but we are shook up. They all worked with a mason crew. Complainant advised they did not want to pursue criminal charges and wanted males warned and told not to come back to property. Males were located at Middlefield Walmart. They told a different story. Males warned and advised. They ad vised they understood.

May 27

1:48 p.m., Main Market Road, Troy. Caller is claiming there are people cooking crystal meth under the bridge near LaDue Reservoir. Checked area and spoke with people fishing; no one seen hanging out nearby.

THEFT

May 26

3:13 p.m., Chardon Road, Chardon. $421 in cash and a check valued at $1,700 was taken by a male subject that stopped in for an application. They do have video surveillance. Deputy advised. Report taken.
