First Fly-In of Summer
June 23, 7 a.m. to noon
The Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 5 will host its first fly-in of summer, a Wings and Wheels event, at the Geauga County Airport, 15421 Old State Road in Middlefield.
An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be served for a donation of $7 for adults and $3 for kids ages 3-11. Proceeds benefit EAA, Chapter 5.
Free airplane rides will be offered for youth ages 8-17 as part of the EAA Young Eagles Program, as well as aviation related games and crafts.
Event also features vintage and show cars and airplanes available for the public to see up close. Car groups are invited.
All is weather permitting. Admission is free. Bring lawn chairs.
Maple Museum Grand Opening
June 23, 12-4 p.m.
The Geauga County Historical Society opens its newest building and historical display, The Maple Museum of Geauga County, 14653 East Park St., Burton. The event is free of charge and open to the pubic to learn more about Geauga County’s rich and sweet history of maple sugar and syrup production.
Maple stirs will be available. Maple syrup, in various quantities, will be also offered for sale at the museum’s store.

Amateur Radio Field Day
June 23-24
Members of the Geauga County Amateur Radio community will be participating in the national Amateur Radio Field Day exercise from the Department of Emergency Services building at 12518 Merritt, behind the safety center in Chardon. Operations commence at 2 p.m. on Saturday and will operate for 24 hours.
The event allows amateur radio operators to test their emergency communications capabilities. The goal is to contact as many amateur radio stations as possible in the United States, Canada and around the world without relying on the internet, telephone or cellular infrastructure.

Geauga Dems Annual Dinner

The Geauga County Democratic Party will host “An Evening with Richard Cordray, Democratic Candidate for Ohio Governor,” during its annual dinner at the Metzenbaum Center, 8200 Cedar Road, Chester Township. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Dinner is at 7 p.m.

Community Day
June 24, 12-5 p.m.
Chardon VFW Post 6519 is hosting a free community event for all veterans and their families at the post located at 752 Water St., Chardon. Event includes Our Zoo to You petting zoo from 1-3 p.m., egg toss, water balloon toss and coloring contests. I Scream Ice Cream truck will be selling ice cream treats from 1-4 p.m.
There will be games, sandwiches and snacks. Meet some local first responders from Chardon Police Department and the Geauga County Sheriff.
Legion Scholarship Awards

Burton-Middlefield American Legion will hold its scholarship awards program and commander’s reception at the Atwood-Mauck Post 459 on Goodwin Street in Burton. Open to the public.

Farm Bureau Ice Cream Social

The Geauga County Farm Bureau is hosting its annual membership appreciation ice cream social at Swine Creek Reservation Lodge, 16004 Hayes Road, Middlefield. Sponsored by the Geauga County Farm Bureau Board of Trustees there will be ice cream, desserts, music, drawings and more.
The event is open to the public, Farm Bureau members andOur Ohiosupporters are free. Non-member fees are $5 per adult, with children under 5 free. Guests may sign up for membership at the event.

Annual WG Alumni Reunion
June 29
Anyone who attended Chester, Russell and West Geauga schools is invited to attend the 138th annual alumni reunion at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 11900 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township.
Social time will start at 5 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person. There will be a cash bar and “split-the-pot” raffle.
The West Geauga class of 1968 will be honored for its 50th anniversary. Classmates celebrating 55, 60, 65 and 70 years will be honored as well. Entertainment with a “Walk Down Memory Lane” will follow dinner.

WG Girls Soccer Camp
July 9-13, 6-8 p.m.
Kori Chapic and the West Geauga girls varsity team will be holding a soccer camp for boys and girls entering grades 2-8. The coaching staff will consist of male and female junior varsity and varsity players and coaching staff.
A fundraiser for the WGHS girls soccer, cost is $110 for the first child and $85 for additional siblings. Each camper receives a T-shirt and two free tickets to a home game.
