Sheriff’s Report
The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office June 22-28, 2018. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 372 calls during this seven-day period.
CITIZEN DISPUTE
June 23
8:55 p.m., Clay Street, Thompson. Caller reports he is at house and a neighbor came back in the woods on his quad, confronted caller and other quad riders. He had a handgun and shot 4-5 shots into the air. Caller reports some riders were given permission to ride on property earlier. One summons issued for aggravated menacing.
June 27
8:09 a.m., Hillview Road, Newbury. Neighbor took four pine trees out of the ground that were on the property line. Caller would like them back. Civil matter, advice given. A note was left on the neighbor’s door with request to give back the trees. Clear.
DEAD BODY
June 22
4:51 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. 36-year-old male cold to the touch, not breathing. Male is blue; female states he is past CPR. Male was sick with a cold earlier. Male was/is a heroin user. Report taken.
DISORDERLY
June 27
2:07 a.m., Bell Street, Newbury. My friend is very drunk, tearing up the house. Caller would like him removed. He wants two deputies; he is highly intoxicated. Caller also has been drinking. Subject arrested.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
June 23
6:52 p.m., Thompson Road, Thompson. Female assaulted a male; they are separated at this time. Female was chasing the male through the campground punching him. She stated he was stealing her possessions. Caller requests officer respond to front desk.
FRAUD
June 27
4:41 p.m., Patch Rod, Troy. Someone has been charging thousands of dollars on his debit card. He also has been receiving items at this house that he didn’t order. Deputy advised. Information obtained on six purchases.
HARASSMENT
June 23
4:05 p.m., Auburn Road, Munson. Female in lobby wanting to make a report regarding harassment. Wanted advice in regards to someone posting lies on Facebook. Advice given, no crime noted. Cleared IR only.
NOISE PROBLEM
June 28
6:21 p.m., Jackson Drive, Burton. Female is outside with subwoofer and loud music harassing the caller again. Ongoing problem with this female. Caller believes loud noise is in retaliation for an incident that occurred in May when she pulled a gun on him. Caller believes female has some mental health issues and was instructed by the prosecutor’s office to call if she continues in this manner. Complainant would like to meet with responding deputy.
OVERDOSE
June 23
4:43 p.m., Thompson Road, Thompson. 40-year-old male possible overdose. He is slumped over the wheel. They believe he is breathing; he can become violent.
SUSPICIOUS
June 27
12:05 a.m., N. Cheshire Street, Burton Village. Male piloting a drone looking through windows. He is across the street from Subway by the apartments. White male wearing a baseball cap and possibly shorts. Checks OK. Male droning in front of his own windows.
June 28
12:19 a.m., Bass Lake Road, Newbury. Dirt bike with lights on, sitting on side of road. There isn’t anyone with it. Caller checked the ditches to make sure nobody was injured near it, but didn’t find anyone or any signs of anyone in area. Male is in the ER parking lot refusing to get out a dark SUV with obvious broken arm. Report taken.
8:58 a.m., Tavern Road, Parkman. Granddaughter reported strange man in her bedroom on Wednesday morning.
THEFT
June 25
10:48 p.m., Lois Lane, Hambden. Caller left her shovel outside and noticed the shovel at her neighbor’s house. Ongoing neighbor dispute. Spoke with neighbor who denied taking the shovel. Advice given to both parties.
June 28
5:41 p.m., Aquilla Road, Claridon. Caller states her younger sister took her checkbook, credit cards, keys, jewelry box and birth certificate. Sister lives in Newbury. Sister told caller she was robbing her and if she called the police she would shoot her. Unknown if she had a weapon. Theft occurred three days ago.
THREATENING
June 22
7:49 p.m., Goredon Drive, Aquilla. Caller got a call from an unknown male stating if she went to court regarding her stolen car out of Cleveland that he would kill her. Report taken.
TRAFFIC CRASH
June 27
6:02 p.m., Peckham Road, Burton. Male in lobby of sheriff’s office. He was involved in a hit/skip crash on Peckham Road and has lacerations on his face from a broken mirror. Black pickup truck struck his vehicle and then took off. No plate available, unknown direction of travel. Report taken.
