Sheriff’s Report
The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Aug. 10-16, 2018. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 305 calls during this seven-day period.
AGENCY ASSIST
Aug. 10
11:38 p.m., Mayfield Road, Huntsburg. Windsor rescue is transporting an OD to UH Geauga and there is a problem person from the scene following too closely. Windsor FD does not want the vehicle travelling with them. Geauga UH protective services updated. Assisted squad without incident. All parties OK at this time.
Aug. 12
4:09 a.m., Ireland Road, Hartsgrove. ACSO requesting as many units as possible for a shooting at location. All local agencies advised. Multiple victims, multiple vehicles, multiple people detained. ACSO and GCSO deputy requesting dayshift deputy to sit with victims at UH Geauga.
Aug. 13
2:39 p.m., Mentor Avenue, Painesville. Going to Painesville for Marshal. Assisted with bank robbery.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
Aug. 14
2:02 p.m., Ravenna Road, Auburn. There is a loose donkey in the roadway on Messenger off of Route 44. GOA/UTL.
FRAUD
Aug. 10
1:36 p.m., Mayfield Road, Munson. Someone took a loan out in victim’s name. Victim will run a credit report to see if it is on her credit and will call back.
4:39 p.m., Wood Acre Trail, Auburn. Caller gave her checking account number to a computer specialist from India. Withdrew $230.
Aug. 11
2:17 p.m., Chipping Lane, Auburn. Scammed online and very shaken up.
HARASSMENT
Aug. 15
8:18 a.m., Klatka Drive, Munson. Complainant reported sometime between midnight and 6:30 a.m. her house and driveway had been egged. Complainant previously has had acid poured on her car. Complainant also reported a letter was put into a neighbor’s mailbox indicating she and a man are having an affair. Complainant believes suspect may be man’s wife.
INTOXICATED PERSON
Aug. 11
4:07 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Female is intoxicated and inside Zeppe’s with a child. She drove to the location. Employees are worried she is going to leave with child. Deputy advised. Female getting belligerent with customers. She had a Bloody Mary since she has been there. Female located at outside bar. Deputy took female outside and spoke with her about incident. She said she only had three drinks and two of them were shots. She was advised of complaint and reason deputies were there. She denied having anything to drink prior to arriving at Zeppe’s. She was clearly intoxicated and advised she needed to contact someone to pick her and her son up. She contacted her friend and neighbor who came and picked them both up.
SUSPICIOUS
Aug. 11
2:31 a.m., Tavern Road, Burton. 50s-year-old female walking naked on the side of the road. OSHP not available. Caller said she almost hit her in passing. Caller advises woman may be pregnant. Caller is talking with the female, who advised she just got out of the hospital. Female keeps saying she will be buried with bugs. Female was naked and walking down Route 168. Squad transported her to the ER for evaluation.
Aug. 16
7:59 p.m., Fairmount Road, Newbury. Caller states there are three males, possibly Russian, acting suspicious. Males went onto the neighbors’ property and took a ladder to put onto a tree to collect mushrooms. Males got into a verbal argument with caller and her fiancé. Truck was GOA. Met with caller who said a white male with a moustache, stated he was Gates Mills building commissioner, went to the neighbors without permission and started removing mushrooms from a tree. Male said he was allowed to be there. Caller called his neighbor to confirm and neighbor said no one was supposed to be on his property removing anything. Caller told male to leave and they got into argument. Male pushed caller. Caller does not wish to pursue charges, only wished to report incident. Advised caller to contact GCSO if male returns.
THEFT
Aug. 10
12:21 p.m., Burton Windsor Road, Huntsburg. Victim was driving down Madison Road today at 10:30 a.m. and located a chair in the middle of the roadway. She began to put the chair in her car when a blue van pulled up to her. Male got out of the van, grabbed the chair away from the victim and put it in his van and drove away. Deputy left a message with van owner to call the sheriff’s office.
Aug. 14
3:22 p.m., Mayfield Road, Huntsburg. Caller is at this location. He bought corn from the stand and then accidentally left his wallet on the moneybox and drove away. When he returned the wallet was gone. They checked the camera and they have the male and vehicle on video. Caller advised his wallet contained $1,700. Report taken.
Aug. 16
1:54 p.m., Butternut Road, Munson. Caller believes the neighbor’s next door may have stolen two of her cats, possibly a third one. Caller went to the neighbor’s house and asked the girls of they had her cats and they said no, but their grandmother was standing behind them and was pointing up, leading caller to believe her cats are upstairs. Cats are all outside cats. Neighbor said she is feeding them because they are scratching her screen door. She was advised to stop feeding them. Advice was provided.
3:06 p.m., Tewksbury Lane, Claridon. $5,000 watch and $500 in change was stolen from the home. Caller’s teenage daughter had some friends over and they will not say who took it.
THREATENING
Aug. 12
9:48 a.m., Terrace Drive, Middlefield. Caller said yesterday father of her child was at the house to see his daughter. Caller said he wanted to take their daughter with him, but she refused because he has a drug issue and does not want her daughter with him in a vehicle. Said he became verbally abusive when she would not let him take daughter. Caller said he threatened to get someone to come beat her up and also threatened to put fentanyl in her food to get rid of her, but he never said he was going to kill her. She is concerned because she is sure he is on meth and does not want daughter around him anymore. Caller requested information on how to get a protection order.
WATER RESCUE
Aug. 13
11:20 a.m., Main Market Road, Auburn. Capsized boat, one person swimming to shore pulling boat, west end of causeway. One person was on the boat; people on the shore are speaking with him. Male is standing up in the water now. Male OK and back in his canoe.
