Sheriff’s Report
September 7, 2018

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Aug. 24-30, 2018. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 477 calls during this seven-day period.

AGENCY ASSIST

Aug. 27

6:17 p.m., U.S. 422, Auburn. K-9 to assist OSHP on traffic stop of a moving truck. K-9 gave a trained final response to the passenger side, lower seam, of the door. A search of the interior resulted in marijuana “shake” throughout the inside. Passenger admitted to smoking marijuana.

ASSAULT

Aug. 28

4:10 p.m., Madison Road, Huntsburg. On post to report assault between daughter and teacher. Report taken.

Aug. 30

8:50 p.m., N. Cheshire Street, Burton Fairgrounds. Female having a panic attack requesting deputies and a squad. Assault victim. Suspect was a male in jeans and a cut-off shirt.

CITIZEN DISPUTE

Aug. 26

10:54 a.m., Burrows Road, Thompson. One of the parents has been banned from the location by the board. They would like an officer to talk to because they are at the football field now, Ledgemont Youth Football. Subject left with no problem.

DISORDERLY

Aug. 24

9:50 a.m., Williams Road, Hambden. Siding company. There is an employee who showed up drunk and he threatened to beat me. We are at customer’s house. He is demanding to be paid now because he was asked to leave. Male has gone over by the house; owner went inside. Male did take a swing at me. Male is backing out of the drive. One male arrested for OVI.

DOMESTIC DISPUTE

Aug. 24

1:59 a.m., Greentree Lane, Troy. Caller states her 46-year-old son is giving her a hard time this evening. He isn’t helping her and she is ill. She says he’s just been verbally rude to her tonight. No physical contact. No drug or alcohol use. Caller’s husband is also son and is ill. Deputy advised no crime has been committed. Caller is aware of eviction process.

FRAUD

Aug. 27

6:39 p.m., Ravenna Road, Newbury. Male in lobby to make report. Stated on an unknown date in December 2017 someone opened a Verizon account using his mother’s Woodin Road address, but that is not her address. Complainant stated the account has been closed and paid in the amount of $6,645, but his credit report shows account still open. Complainant said he wanted the report documented so the Verizon account will come off his credit report and he said he needed a police report for the incident.

INJURED PERSON

Aug. 24

10:01 p.m., Auburn Road, Newbury. Two juveniles walking down the road, struck by a vehicle. One may have a broken hand. White Ford pickup southbound on Auburn, left the scene. Other juvenile was hit on the side. Mirror on passenger side is broken off. Both juveniles conscious and alert. They are at the front of the stadium at ticket booth. GCSO units advised.

JUVENILE PROBLEM

Aug. 28

7:08 p.m., Longwood Avenue, Burton. Caller’s teenage son has been vaping and caller knows the female that is buying them for him. Complainant concerned the individual supplying her son with juul pods. Complainant stated she wanted deputy to call individual and advise her she should stop selling juul pods to minors.

SUSPICIOUS

Aug. 26

11:22 a.m., Center Street, Parkman. Caller is at St. Edward’s Catholic Church and is counting collection and it looks like someone was in the church. It looks like they may have stayed after mass. Recently had a break in down here. Just found another door open and unlocked. Sweep of building revealed no unwanted person in building. Caller would like incident documented.

Aug. 27

11:04 p.m., Bridge Road, Middlefield. Someone is trying to scam him online. Complainant sent nude photos to an unknown person online. That unknown person is now telling the complainant they want to post the photos online. Complainant is upset and wanted deputies to remove the photos from the Internet if they were posted. Complainant was advised his request could not be done and to not send photos to people he does not know online.

Aug. 29

9:19 a.m., Kile Road, Hambden. Complainant is postal carrier and is at the Chardon Post Office now to make a report for incident that occurred yesterday at above location where homeowner pulled vehicle in front of the carrier blocking the carrier and accused her of hitting the mailbox and damaging it which complainant advised did not happen. Deputy advised.

THREATENING

Aug. 28

4:07 p.m., Kile Road, Montville. Employee received a threatening call from a male yesterday evening. She thinks she may know who it is. Male called and said, “I know you’ve fired people, die bitch.” Deputy left message for caller to contact him.

Aug. 29

6:17 p.m., Oakstone Trail, Chardon. Female called a person out on Facebook who was commenting rude things. She was now worried the male is going to retaliate. Advice given.
