Sheriff’s Report
The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Aug. 31 through Sept. 6, 2018. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 420 calls during this seven-day period.
ALCOHOL OFFENSE
Sept. 1
2:37 p.m., Main Market Road, Parkman. Clerk believes the Amish taxi driver was purchasing alcohol for underage Amish kids. Driver purchased alcohol three different times this date. UTL on vehicle. Advice given.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
Sept. 4
1:41 p.m., Bass Lake Road, Munson. North of Julie Drive on Bass Lake Road there are wild turkeys attacking autos as they pass by. UTL.
FIRE
Sept. 6
9:32 p.m., Wayne Lane, Hambden. Someone filled a barrel with gasoline and it is on fire. Caller tried to put it out and she thinks she did. Fire from the barrel caught her house on fire. Caller’s hands did get burned. Caller has been told to leave residence. Caller is not sure who put the barrel next to her house and caught it on fire. Fire personnel are investigating a possible arson. Canvassed area and spoke with several residents. Names and information received will be added to report.
FRAUD
Sept. 4
2:21 p.m., Messenger Road, Newbury. Female paid $3,500 for blacktop work that was never done from September 2017. Report to follow.
Sept. 6
11:27 a.m., Pekin Road, Newbury. Caller advised a pool replacement company stole $2,000 from him. Complainant needed to get additional information for deputy, who left statement forms to fill out. Complainant advised to drop paperwork off at sheriff’s office.
LOST PROPERTY
Aug. 31
2:23 p.m., Burton Fairgrounds, Burton. Lost diamond bracelet.
SUSPICIOUS
Aug. 31
8:53 p.m., Thompson Road, Thompson. Caller stated he heard a bunch of people outside of his camper and one of the persons mentioned “going inside and hitting them with a stick.” Caller thought they could be talking about hitting him. No persons were observed; checked the area UTL. Advice given.
Sept. 1
12:19 a.m., Tavern Road, Parkman. Between Chickagami Park and Nash Road there’s someone throwing apples at buggies. Apples were being thrown from east side of road. Unknown how many people or description. Caller could not see them. Patrolled area. UTL/GOA.
THEFT
Sept. 1
7:27 p.m., Bass Lake Road, Newbury. $50,000 worth of tools are missing. Spoke with complainant who said she noticed yesterday at approximately 6 p.m. that tools were taken out of her toolbox.
Sept. 6
9:41 p.m., Ledge Road, Thompson. Caller reports several collectibles are two Honda dirt bikes stolen out of his detached garage.
THREATENING
Aug. 31
12:51 p.m., Crestwood Drive, Middlefield. Caller threatened to come and kill us. Complainant received multiple calls from a solicitor. Complainant was advised to block the telephone number through Spectrum. Complainant wanted the incident documented and will contact responding officer if they have more problems.
Sept. 2
4:51 p.m., Hayes Road, Middlefield. Female caller would like to speak to deputy. She is being blackmailed by a male in Tennessee. He has an explicit photo of her and is threatening to post it if she does not send him more explicit photos and videos of her. She is not sure how this male obtained a photo of her. Deputy spoke with complainant. She said a male on this app sent her a message stating he has a nude photo of her and will show everyone on the KIK app if she does not send him more. She also said she does not know how this male obtained this nude photo of her from three years ago. She said her phone must have been hacked. Deputy advised caller contact KIK and inform them of this male who goes by identified username. Caller contacted KIK and requested they remove her from the site. She said she believes this will solve the problem now.
Sept. 4
3:12 p.m., Hotchkiss Road, Burton. Caller is in the lobby. She originally was being threatened at Chardon High School. She is now receiving threats at her home. Deputy advised. Report to follow.
VANDALISM
Aug. 31
12:12 p.m., Indian Hills Drive, Auburn. Son’s car is in the drive. Someone wrote profanities on it and tried to pry open the hood. Complainant called back and advised it was the grandsons and they will handle.
Sept. 3
11:56 a.m., Hart Road, Montville. Property was vandalized overnight. Toilet paper and satanic stuff paintings. Report taken.
