The Geauga County Democratic Party will host its monthly hot topic -Meet the Candidates Night – at the Geauga County Democratic Headquarters and Social Hall located at 12420 Kinsman Road, Newbury. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. followed by a spaghetti and meatball dinner at 7 p.m. and the hot topic at 7:15 p.m. Suggested donation is $10.

Garrett Westhoven, candidate for auditor; Anita Blue Marlowe, candidate for commissioner; and John Kennedy, candidate for state representative, will speak and answer questions.

Wine for Whines

A paint your pet fundraiser benefitting the Geauga County Dog Shelter will take placeat Cold Nose Companions Dog Training Center in Chardon. The $80 registration includes a 12-by12-inch canvas pre-sketched with the pet’s photo, quality art instruction from Mary Ann Hagen, a buffet of local food and wine from Sharon James Cellars.

41st OVI Living History Program

Sept. 22, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Civil War re-enactors will portray a typical 1860s campsite at
Veterans Park in Newbury Township. The free event is sponsored by Newbury Township; food and beverages will be available for purchase at local restaurants.

Rummage and Bake Sale

Sept. 22, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Ledgewood Christian Church Youth Ministry is holding its annual rummage and bake sale at Ledgewood Christian Church, 8261 Kinsman Road in Russell Township.

Proceeds support the LCC Youth Ministry, Camp Christian and the Cleveland Christian Home. Boy Scout Troop 193 will also be on hand selling popcorn.

Pet Health & Wellness Clinic

Sept. 23, 1-4 p.m.

DeJohn Pet Services will host a free pet health and wellness clinic, with Holistic Care for Your Pets talk at 2 p.m. and a Pet CPR review at 3 p.m. The pet clinic will be held in the community room at DeJohn Funeral Home at 28890 Chardon Road in Willoughby Hills. Please leave pets at home.

Dr. Neal Sivula from Dancing Paws Animal Wellness Center will focus on new treatments and trends in holistic pet care. Dr. Paul Ramsey, of Animal Medical Center of Euclid, will present a review of pet CPR.

While the clinic is free, donations will be accepted for the Geauga Dog Warden.

Perennial Gardeners Flower Show

Sept. 26, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Perennial Gardeners of Chesterland present “Can You Dig It,” a national garden club small standard flower show. The free show that is open to the public, takes place at Geauga West Library, 13455 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township.

Veteran Outreach Program

Sept. 26, 12-3 p.m.

Justice Sharon L. Kennedy will be the keynote speaker at Chardon VFW Post 6519 to discuss veterans law and future veteran related legislation. She will be available for questions and answers following the presentation.

Co-hosted with the Geauga County Bar Association, the event includes a complimentary lunch for veterans with a $15 fee for additional guests. The post is located at 752 Water St., Chardon.

Fall Yoga

Wednesdays, 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Join for a gentle, progressive style of yoga suitable for all ages and body types at the Chardon United Methodist Church, 515 North St. No experience is needed.

Conducted by master teacher and instructor Susan Gundersen, a suggested donation of $10 is requested, with proceeds going towards the church’s Guatemala mission. Bring a yoga mat, light blanket and wear comfortable clothing.

LWVGC Holds Annual Meeting

Sept. 27, 7 p.m.

The League of Women Voters of Geauga County will hold its annual meeting at Munson Town Hall on Auburn Road in Munson Township.

The agenda will include election of officers, financial report and updates about plans for the voter’s guide and candidates nights.

Food Pantry Open

Sept. 28, 10 a.m. to noon 

The food pantry at Chester Christian Center will be open to anyone in need of food; one does not need to be a member of the church to attend.

The church is located at 11815 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township.

American Legion Aux. Fall Conference

Sept. 29, 10 a.m.

The American Legion Auxiliary District 9, comprised of units from   Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake, Mahoning and Trumbull counties, will hold its fall conference at the American Legion Cowle Post 151, 272 Broad St., Conneaut.

The program includes a speaker from the department of Ohio executive leadership, an overview of programs by the district chairman and a leadership presentation and overview of other programs.

Auburn Community Picnic

Sept. 29, 12-6 p.m.

Join for Auburn’s Community Picnic at Auburn Community Park, 17484 Munn Road. There will be community games, cash prizes. Carnival booth games, bounce houses, CLE Bubble Soccer and bingo. Auburn Scout Troop 101 will demonstrate fire starting and rope building. Food and beverage trucks will be on-site. The magic show starts at 1 p.m. and live music by No Moss from 2:30-5:30 p.m.

Audubon Visits Acacia Reservation

Sept. 30

Blackbrook Audubon invites birders of all levels to join them at Cleveland Metroparks’ Acacia Reservation. Meet at the kiosk by the parking lot of 26899 Cedar Road, Beachwood at 8 a.m.

Once a golf course, this park has been transformed and continues to experience habitat upgrades. Trails are paved and restrooms are available.

WomenSafe Fall Luncheon

Oct. 5, 12-3:30 p.m.

WomenSafe, in partnership with Leading Lady, will be hosting the annual fall luncheon, “Imagine YOU in Full Bloom,”at Landerhaven Event Center in Mayfield Heights.

Event includes lunch, silent and Chinese auctions, a fashion show and a vendor area with more than 15 local vendors offering prizes and promotions. Emcee is Grace Roberts from 107.3 The WAVE and music will be provided by DJ Nic Nacc.

Huntsburg CC Turkey Dinner

Oct. 6, 4-6:30 p.m.

Huntsburg Congregational Church will hold its annual turkey dinner with all the fixings at the church located at 12435 Madison Road. Come to the Pumpkin Festival and stay for dinner

Cost is $11 for adults, $9 for seniors and $6 for children ages 5-10. Children under 5 are free.

Pig Roast Dinner

Oct. 6, 4-7 p.m.

Newbury American Legion Post 663 is hosting its annual pig roast dinner in the Hunter pavilion behind the post located at 11008 Kinsman Road in Newbury. Event includes a homemade pie auction and 50/50 raffle.

FCA Night at Patterson Farm

Fairmount Center for the Arts will host a fun family event at Patterson Fruit Farm, 8765 Mulberry Road. Enjoy pizza, cider, donuts, hayride, bonfire, plus art-making and a performance by the Fairmount Dance Company. Proceeds support Fairmount’s mission of fostering a love for the arts.

Rescue Mission Fundraiser

Geauga Faith Rescue Mission will hold its third annual dinner and auction to benefit Geauga County’s homeless at Notre Dame Educational Center, 13000 Auburn Road in Chardon.

Fall Fest

Fall Fest will be held on historic Chardon Square. The evening will include s’mores, sponsored by the Chardon Area Rotary; scarecrow making, sponsored by the Chardon Area Kiwanis; balloon artist Stacy Alan, sponsored by the Chardon Square Association; and live music by DJ Bryan Baker, face painting by Katie Stone, sponsored by the City of Chardon; and free hot dogs and cider, sponsored by Chardon Tomorrow and City of Chardon.

Montville Firefighter’s Fall Dinner

Oct. 13, 5 p.m.

Montville Firefighter’s Association is hosting a fall dinner at the fire station. Doors open at 5 p.m.; dinner will be served at 6 p.m.
Menu includes choice of steak, chicken or clams with sides, beverage and dessert. Tickets are $17 each, presale only by Oct. 5. Hot dog kid’s meal is available for $5.

Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle will be on sale at 6 p.m., with winning tickets drawn at 7:30 p.m. Winners do not need to be present.

Vendors Sought For Arts Fair

Auburn Firedevils are seeking vendors for their sixth annual arts, crafts and consultants fair. A fundraiser for the Auburn Township Volunteer Fire Department will be held at Adams Halls, 11455 Washington St., Auburn Township.
