Sheriff’s Report
September 26, 2018

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Sept. 14-20, 2018. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 422 calls during this seven-day period.

ANIMAL ABUSE

Sept. 16

3:21 p.m., Valentine Road, Thompson. Caller’s brother moved into the home and has found a deceased dog in a cage in a garage that appears to have been left there to die by previous renter. Report taken.

CITIZEN ASSIST

Sept. 20

8:54 p.m., Burton Windsor Road, Burton. Puppy with its mouth stuck in the cage. Puppy was removed from the cage and checked OK.

DISORDERLY

Sept. 15

10:10 p.m., Pekin Road, Newbury. Anonymous caller reports some type of disturbance. He states there is a white truck parked in the roadway with several people outside screaming. Deputy unable to locate vehicle involved in incident. Spoke with a witness who advised there was a verbal argument between a few males about drinking and going to a bar. She stated there was no violence, only verbal arguing.

FRAUD

Sept. 14

2:22 p.m., Washington Street, Auburn. Complainant’s computer running slowly and somebody online told him they could fix it if he paid them money. Complainant was advised it was fraud and for him to turn off his computer and bring it to a computer repair shop to remove the viruses. Complainant also was advised not to send money to the female in a different country.

HARASSMENT

Sept. 14

6:14 p.m., Rock Creek Road, Hambden. Spoke to complainant who advised his neighbor was on the property line mowing his own yard and yelling curse words. Complainant declined to fill out a statement and stated he would wait to hear from prosecutor in reference to another case that was sent up for review. Complainant also advised to look into a civil order. No further assistance requested.

Sept. 15

2:04 p.m., Rock Creek Road, Hambden. Caller has neighbor on tape now harassing him. Caller spoke with deputy last night that said he needs to get him recorded before they can do anything. Complainant video showed the neighbor in question riding a four-wheeler on his own property, waiving and saying, “I love you neighbor. You’re a good neighbor.” No other evidence provided. No crime noted at this time. Advice given. Deputy then spoke to neighbor in question who advised, “I’m just riding on my property, minding my own business.” Advice was given and was told to stop communicating with his neighbor if they can’t get along.

MEDICAL

Sept. 20

4:26 a.m., Fairway View, Auburn. Male drank two pints of vodka yesterday and now has diarrhea and is unstable. Will respond if needed.

SUSPICIOUS

Sept. 15

1:28 a.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Caller thinks someone is trying to kill or shoot her daughter. Caller states daughter should be on foot. Boyfriend was screaming at her in trailer park. Daughter is texting her to go home. Deputy made contact with mother. She admitted to abusing crystal meth recently and shows signs of it on her face. After speaking with mother it was apparent she was just being paranoid, which is caused from the drug abuse. Daughter checked OK and picked up by her mother.

Sept. 18

6:56 p.m., Auburn Road, Newbury. Male smoke weed in the library. Unknown who the male is, possibly has a warrant. Possibly staying in the Hickory Lake area. Male is running toward Route 87. Male located and cited for marijuana possession and paraphernalia.

Sept. 19

9:25 p.m., GAR Highway, Montville. Caller was cleaning out his fireplace and found what looks to be human remains in the hole at the bottom of the ash chute. Caller states he has not used the fireplace in the last 11 years that he has been in the home. Checks OK; it was a rubber toy skeleton.

THREATENING

Sept. 16

11:31 a.m., Aquilla Road, Burton. Caller stopped by at ex-girlfriend’s mother’s home to see his child and heard and saw a shotgun being cocked as he approached front door. Gentleman with the gun was ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend. Caller was more in fear for the safety is his daughter than himself. Caller wanted incident documented for his attorney.

TRESPASSING

Sept. 17

4:47 p.m., Sperry Road, Newbury. Caller owns two properties on Sperry. Someone vandalized her political sign. Spoke with property owner; sign damaged at night.

WEAPONS OFFENSE

Sept. 14

3:29 p.m., Mayfield Road, Huntsburg. Someone on Princeton shooting and bullets are ricocheting off the trees behind the campground. Male found shooting toward east. Advised about complaint. Stated ongoing problem. Stopped shooting for the day.
