The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Jan. 18-24, 2019. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 340 calls during this seven-day period.

BURGLARY

Jan. 21

10:42 p.m., Washington Street, Auburn. $3,000 and a gun missing. A tenant stated on the phone that he was robbed at gun point and a shot was fired. He is not here now. Report taken. One arrested.

CITIZEN ASSIST

Jan. 20

8:40 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Deputy gave three juveniles a ride home due to poor weather conditions.

DRUGS

Jan. 22

1:44 p.m., Auburn Road, Newbury. Student found with drugs. Come to the office. Deputy advised.

FRAUD

Jan. 22

8:59 a.m., Hosmer Road, Parkman. Online fraud. Macy’s account opened in the name of the victim and purchases were made. Will send email to Macy’s to obtain additional information.

HARASSMENT

Jan. 23

4:43 p.m., Turner Drive, Aquilla. Spoke with complainant. Female said there has been a white male stopping at her home monthly stating he is from Census. She said she told the male she does not want to speak to him and he leaves but then comes back the next month. She thinks this is odd and is requesting extra patrol.

HAZMAT

Jan. 24

6:52 p.m., Cornelia Drive, Aquilla. Heating fuel leaked into basement. Geauga Water Resources paged for contamination of lift station. EPA notified. Possible up to 200 gallons has gotten into Aquilla Lake. Also will contact ODNR. Hambden requested fo0r haz-mat trailer. Scene turned over to EPA.

JUVENILE PROBLEM

Jan. 18

10:16 p.m., Clay Street, Huntsburg. 15-year-old and 16-year-old left with alcohol in the buggy. Unknown where they went; will not answer cell phone. There were two 12 packs of beer located in the buggy that were unopened. Neither boy had consumed any alcoholic beverages. Boys were advised to continue heading home. Beer turned over and advice given.

SUSPICIOUS

Jan. 22

4:10 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. A dark-colored truck drove by and took a picture of her granddaughter getting off the bus. It looked newer. A female was driving and took the picture. Younger female with brown hair. Extra patrol request for all of the park around 4 p.m. for suspicious vehicles. No identifying info on the truck or female operator.

THEFT

Jan. 22

7:30 p.m., Bass Lake Road, Newbury. Caller states he had two males shoveling snow and now there are items missing from house: a wallet and 45-pistol. They walked into the residence. This occurred several hours ago. Report taken.

TRAFFIC HAZARD

Jan. 20

1:42 p.m., Hillview Road, Newbury. Caller’s neighbors’ plow driver plowed the snow into the caller’s driveway and into the roadway and left it. Deputy arrived on scene and spoke with caller, and advised him there were no laws regulating snow removal. Clear.

WELFARE CHECK

Jan. 20

1:45 a.m., Merritt Road, Munson. While checking on a rolling disturbance vehicle was located in front of UH Geauga. Deputy spoke with male who advised he just picked up his girlfriend and they were arguing because she wanted drugs. Deputy asked female for an ID and she said she didn’t have it with her. Deputy then asked her for SSN and she advised she didn’t know it. Deputy advised her not to lie, she would be arrested anyways. Female advised she had a warrant and provided her SSN to deputy, who confirmed she had a warrant for contempt of court. She was arrested and transported to GCSO jail.

Jan. 24

11:59 p.m., Kinsman Road, Middlefield. Caller states her house is haunted by a presence and her young daughter has been thrown down the steps, having trouble sleeping and is demonically possessed. Mother has custody of children from three different fathers and two different mothers. There is an open case currently with JFS and history of extensive sex abuse and drug abuse involving birth parents. No known current cases involving female but she states JFS has been called on her before. Per Copeline, female and child sounded genuinely scared. ER has been notified; one female for evaluation.
