Sheriff’s Report
Feb. 8-14, 2019
The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Feb. 8-14, 2019. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 325 calls during this seven-day period.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
Feb. 8
7:40 a.m., State Route 166, Thompson. Three beagles in the roadway. UTL/GOA.
CITIZEN ASSIST
Feb. 8
3:37 p.m., Valley Road, Auburn. Ice fisherman on LaDue. Caller is concerned because she can see cracks and water on the ice and it’s cold and windy. She does not want him to fall through. She states it is not safe; she can see open water. There is a tent the male is in. Deputy responded. No open water between shore and the ice fishing tent set up in the middle of the lake.
Feb. 12
4:51 p.m., Ravenna Road, Claridon. West Farmington transported 22-year-old female to the ER and staff believes she is the victim of a domestic. TCSO us unable to respond to the ER to meet with the female and she states she does not want to file charges either. Meet with female to determine if she would like assistance getting into our WomenSafe until she can make arrangements to meet with TCSO. Male subject is in the ER waiting room; staff has not let him back because victim does not want him around her. He believes he is going to take victim home but staff does not believe that is safe for victim. Victim said she recently left an abusive relationship and was in WomenSafe a short time. Female refused assistance and stated she is safe returning home. Victim was advised to file a report with TCSO when she returns home. She was also advised if she changes her mind, we would return to assist her.
DOMESTIC DISPUTE
Feb. 8
11:50 a.m., North Street, Chardon. In process of divorce. Husband is here threatening me and the dogs, trying to intimidate me. Verbal argument between husband and wife who are going through a divorce. Husband no longer lives there. Husband left the residence. Wife was advised to call us to stand by if he needs any more of his belongings.
Feb. 10
9:11 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Caller states his friend punched him in the face. Male is not there now. Fight started over fact he is sleeping with his mother. Male states there also is a protection order between him and his mom. She continues to call him. There is no protection order. Spoke with both parties and both gave different stories of how the incident took place. Verbal argument over dating mother. No signs of violence to either party. Advice given to all three involved.
Feb. 13
9:32 a.m., Bundysburg Road, Parkman. 50-year-old son is a drug addict and he lost his job. Parents told him he could move back home in November. Today he lies, he is causing problems at home. Slammed the door and broke a drawer. Coming to the point where parents are becoming afraid of him. Son is upset his girlfriend cannot stay home. Won’t stay in drug rehab. Caller would like deputy to speak with him. Son left before deputy arrived. Deputy spoke with parents and provided advice and stated they understood. No physical violence, verbal only.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Feb. 10
2:27 a.m., South Street, Chardon. Female on line screaming for help. Male on the line stating he is going to kill her. Male telling the female “there isn’t no God going to help you.” Female in the line moaning. Now showing in the Sheetz parking lot. Female is asking for the ER. Line is open. Male has stated he is going to kill her multiple times. Line disconnected. Male had to be cuffed. Deputy on way to jail with male. Send squad for female. MS patient, mental evaluation. Left hospital and needs to go back. Report to follow.
DRUGS
Feb. 10
1:04 a.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Caller was moving her friend’s belongings out of her residence and found drugs. Caller is disposing of marijuana and a pipe. Advice given for proper eviction.
FRAUD
Feb. 11
3:25 p.m., Ravenna Road, Newbury. Caller was just scammed. She provided the person with her Medicare number. Medicare advised her to file a report with local police. Spoke with caller who advised she received a call from a medical supply company who told her she could get a free knee brace. After she gave them her Medicare number, they just hung up. IR only.
HARASSMENT
Feb. 8
2:32 p.m., Thomas Drive, Middlefield. Ex-friend has been calling family members and lying about her. Unfounded and advice given.
Feb. 10
10:15 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Caller would like to file a report for phone harassment against his mother. He advised his mom called him six hours ago. He further advised she did not make any threats nor did she say anything he did not want to hear. The reason he wants harassment charged filed is because he is upset his roommate is dating his mother.
Feb. 12
4:58 p.m., Rock Creek Road, Thompson. Teenage daughter has been the victim of cyber bullying. Girl recently ended a relationship with her boyfriend and said he and his friends have been slandering her name on social media. Deputy observed Snap Chat conversations on phone. There were no threats of violence directed at daughter. Mother wanted it documented in case ex-boyfriend or his friends attempt to come over to her house because she told them she does not want them around. Deputy advised girl to block everyone from her social media accounts she does not want to be contacted by. Extra patrol requested at residence.
SUSPICIOUS
Feb. 12
3:32 p.m., Aquilla Road, Claridon. Male just came into the store. In his 60s. He was walking around the store and noticed he had a handgun in his left jacket pocket. He didn’t buy anything. He was in here for about two minutes and left. There is not a sign posted that no weapons are allowed. Would like extra patrol when closing.
THEFT
Feb. 11
8:26 a.m., Bell Street, Newbury. High-point 45 carbine stolen. Tan and black. Deputy advised. Report taken.
Feb. 12
6:36 p.m., White Road, Burton. Two vehicles were broken into in parking lot of Emeth Gymnastics. Smashed window and missing purse.
7:54 p.m., Washington Street, Auburn. Three vehicles in parking lot of The Pond were broken into. Window smashed, purse stolen.
THREATENING
Feb. 10
12:16 a.m., W. High Street, Middlefield. Male called and ordered pizza. When he ordered he was calling the employees names. Once pizza was delivered, male called back and was threating the employees saying he was going to “come there and find them” and “call the police on them.” Delivery man stated it looked like a party. Multiple people were intoxicated and possibly underage. Discrepancy with price paid for food. Male was advised to speak with a manager on the next business day.
TPO VIOLATION
Feb. 11
3:10 p.m., Brookview Road, Huntsburg. Suspect left comments on my Facebook page, violating a protection order. Suspect posted an emoji on the caller’s Facebook page. Caller has a protection order against the suspect, who advised it was an accident. Report taken. Case sent to the prosecutor for review.
VIOLATION COURT ORDER
Feb. 11
7:59 p.m., Madison Road, Thompson. Male just showed up at caller’s house. There is a protection order in place. He left walking toward the square, wearing headphones and a gray coat. Male walked into the house, picked up something from under the couch and left, Caller believes he was getting drugs under the couch. Male arrested for CPO violation. See report. Male arrested and transported to the jail.
