D.A.R.E. Program Graduates

Burton Elementary School hosted a special ceremony on Feb. 11 to recognize all fifth-grade students for successfully completing the 10-week D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program.

The classroom lessons were led by members of the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office and emphasized the importance of making safe and responsible choices to live lives that are productive and free from substance abuse and violence. Participating students were recognized individually and given a certificate to commemorate their completion of the program. Winners of the D.A.R.E. essay competition were recognized as well and given the opportunity to read aloud their short essays to teachers, students and parents in attendance.

Thank-you to the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office for supporting the students and congratulations to the fifth-graders at Burton Elementary for demonstrating a commitment to living a drug-free lifestyle.

Energized Guyz Visit Ledgemont

Ledgemont students learned important lessons about energy use and conservation courtesy of The Energized Guyz, a fun and educational production performed by members of The National Theatre for Children in the school gym on Feb. 20. Sponsored by The Illuminating Co., the short play follows the adventures of junior superhero Nikki Neutron as he learns about the different types of energy, including how they are used, examples of energy waste and finally, practical tips on how to conserve energy use at home and at school.

At the conclusion of the show, students received information on how to obtain a free energy efficiency kit to use at home. Altogether, students had a great time learning how to “open their eyes and be energy wise.”
