July 3-11, 2019

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office July 3-11, 2019. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 536 calls during this period.

ASSAULT

July 3

6:58 p.m., Plank Road, Montville. Caller states neighbor attacked him, slapped in the face and punched in the stomach. Parties are separated. Neighbors are upset because they are getting evicted and they believe caller is responsible. Refused medical. Caller stated his face is swollen. Madison Township has female in custody. Meet officer. See report.

BOMB THREAT

July 10

8:08 p.m., Ravenna Road, Claridon. ER is on the phone with a female who states someone told her they are bringing a bomb to the hospital. Family believes someone is after him and is going to bomb hospital. Multiple calls were made to hospital by one adult male and one adult female, both with heavy accents. Looking to speak with a patient named Smith. Female caller said bomb would be delivered to hospital in retribution. Hospital locked down, staff interviewed and a bomb-sniffing K9 was brought in before all clear announced. Hospital checked clear. Incident remains under investigation.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

July 3

8:38 p.m., Caves Road, Chester. Report of domestic. Female is drunk, throwing property, breaking windows and threatening violence. No weapons, no injuries and no children. Male caller is trying to stay away from the female; she is following home around the house. She just smashed caller’s furniture/tables. One male and female arrested for DV.

FOUND PROPERTY

July 9

10:43 a.m., Old State Road, Parkman. Spoke with caller who said about a week ago he found $136 in the ditch while trimming. He said he did not know what to do with the money so he contacted the GCSO to turn the money in. Caller was advised if no one claims the money he could contact the sheriff’s office to claim it. Deputy took the money and logged it into evidence.

FRAUD

July 8

1:34 p.m., Munn Road, Auburn. Caller was scammed out of $4,200. She used her employer’s credit cards to purchase gift cards. She scratched off the back numbers and gave that info to a person she thought was her boss who was requesting it. Deputy advised of call. Caller said she received an email she thought was from her boss. Email directed her to obtain gift cards for him and to keep it confidential because it was a surprise for some staff. Email directed her to buy gift cards in amount of $200 each and to photo the cards then send him the info. Caller said she asked her boss about the gift cards and he did not know what she was talking about. Boss told caller to file report with GCSO.

INFO REPORT

July 5

9:14 p.m., Taylor May Road, Auburn. Between Taylor May and Batholomew on public hunting land and then at Hambden Orchards on 608 guys will be hunting coyotes until approximately 1 a.m.

ROAD RAGE

July 4

9:23 a.m., Butternut Road, Munson. Cyclist was riding and a vehicle almost hit him. Driver then threatened him and pulled into the driveway. Complainant would like to speak with officer. Spoke to both parties. Bike rider claimed a truck cut him off turning into a driveway. They both exchanged words. Truck driver got out of truck to confront biker. Neither party wanted to file a statement of anything further.

July 8

6:03 a.m., Ravenna Road, Auburn. A vehicle threw water at another vehicle and all pulled off to the side. They were physically fighting in the road. Caller states his vehicle is damaged when vehicle that passed him slammed on its brakes, resulting in non-injury accident. Caller not injured. Both parties separated. Crash and road rage incident occurred in Portage County. Stood by until OSHP arrived.

SUSPICIOUS

July 5

7:17 a.m., Wildwood Drive, Hambden. Just saw a 6-foot alligator at the corner of Woodin and Wildwood. There is a pond right there and he was by the pond. Yard ornament.

THREATENING

July 6

3:52 p.m., Huntley Road, Huntsburg. Teenage son pulled a knife on his mother. Son still has the knife. Other children in the house. Son got upset because mother smashed his phone with a hammer. Transported for evaluation.

July 8

4:27 p.m., Wildwood Drive, Hambden. Caller reports she received a phone call from a female who threatened to blow up her house. Deputy spoke with the female who said she was receiving calls from her own house phone number. Unidentified person would make threats and then hang up.
