June 28 through July 2, 2019

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office June 28 through July 2, 2019. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 327 calls during this period.

ANIMAL PROBLEM

June 28

6:03 p.m., Forest Road, Claridon. Neighbors’ dog attacked her animals earlier today. Dog came onto caller’s property and attacked three of his 4-H pigs. Caller said he has a vet on the way and that he already spoke with the neighbor and just wanted it documented. Advice given.

June 30

1:33 a.m., Mill Street, Middlefield. Bat is back in the house, flying around downstairs.  Caller is locked back upstairs in the bedroom. Was last seen flying in living room. Door is locked and caller is afraid to go down to unlock it. Attempt #2. Bat chased again. Believe it exited back door.

July 2

2:45 a.m., Madison Road, Montville. In front of this address with loose cows in roadway. Deputy was unable to make contact with anyone at location. Cows traveled off the road to the west and headed a couple hundred yards into the woods.

CITIZEN DISPUTE

June 30

10:44 a.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Male is here and won’t leave. He took my keys. He smashed my windshield last night, left threatening voicemails. He wants a relationship. Deputy advised. Summons issued for trespass and disorderly conduct.

July 2

9:33 p.m., Auburn Road, Newbury. Caller wanted it documented that her neighbor was outside spraying an unknown substance around the patios and sidewalks of the apartments, including caller’s patio. Caller then sprayed area off with a hose and the two females exchanged words and swore at each other. They then both sprayed each other, one with the hose and the other with the unknown substance. Complainant just wanted it documented.

DOMESTIC DISPUTE

June 28

12:29 a.m., Cloverdale Drive, Middlefield. Caller advised her son is arguing over the phone with his girlfriend and the male is banging the walls. No weapons. No drugs or alcohol. Male knows mother is calling. Nothing physical. Male has stopped banging on walls. Advice given on deputies arrival.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

June 28

9:22 p.m., Daniel Lane, Hambden. Caller reports her son and another subject shoved her onto the floor twice and trying to throw her out of house. Also pulled out a chunk of her hair. Reports she has cuts and scratches. Incident occurred last night. Two arrested. Report to follow.

FRAUD

June 28

1:14 p.m., Valentine Road, Thompson. Complainant is in the lobby. Victim paid a collection company for a debt owed to department store. Collection agency changed. New agency has no record that debt was paid and stated he still owes the money.

SUSPICIOUS

June 30

4:34 p.m., Mill Road, Parkman. Caller just opened up his own business at home and found a dead fish on front of his porch by the shop. He looked up what this could mean and he found results that said it is something the Mafia did when they wanted to harm someone. Caller would like to make a report. Caller removed fish prior to deputy’s arrival. Unknown how it got there. IR only.

7:54 p.m., Farley Road, Parkman. North on Route 528 a newer gray car approached his 14-year-old daughter asking her where she was going. He went toward the female and she ran. Skinny, bald white male with sunglasses and a heavier set male driving. No other description of vehicle. No physical contact made between anyone involved. UTL on vehicle due to approximate 20-minute passing from time of incident to report. Extra patrol will be given to area.

THEFT

July 2

6:24 p.m., Mentor Road, Chardon. Caller had yard art stolen out of his yard. Happened sometime this afternoon. Theft report taken.

THREATENING

June 28

9:04 p.m., Dianne Drive, Newbury. Wants to speak with a deputy about harassment from a classmate. Not a threat or harassment. Complainant received a friend request on Snapchat from someone he doesn’t want as a friend. No other contact was made and no crime committed. Complainant advised to block other party if he doesn’t want him on his friend list.

TRAFFIC CRASH

June 28

2:20 p.m., Main Market Road, Parkman. Car vs. buggy. Multiple injuries involving an infant. Rescue squads arriving on scene. Cancel helicopter. ODOT for road closure needed. Three going to Geauga hospital, one will be an adult male trauma alert. Assisted OSHP as needed.

WELFARE CHECK

June 29

9:13 p.m., Bud Drive. Middlefield. Children and youth services from Crawford County (PA) requesting welfare check on five children. Agency received an anonymous call advising mother smokes pot and children all had lice and the living conditions are terrible. Nobody home. From what can be seen, home has child clutter including shoes, bike helmets, etc. Spoke with caller and advised her of findings.
