The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office July 26 through Aug. 1, 2019. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 504 calls during this period.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
July 26
8:45 p.m., Hart Road, Montville. Caller says there are five cows that were in the road, uncontained. Cows returned to their owner.
10:02 p.m., Auburn Road, Newbury. Caller says there is a donkey running around across from the high school. There are some people out with it now. Donkey was located by owner.
CITIZEN ASSIST
July 30
6:53 a.m., Thompson Road, Thompson. Kitten stuck in the tree since yesterday. She is probably 20 feet up.
12:56 p.m., Hidden Oaks Drive, Munson. 17 guns turned over for safe keeping. Photographed and logged into evidence room.
Aug. 1
6:58 p.m., Forest Oaks Drive, Chardon. In June, caller sold a car to someone on Facebook. Person has never paid for the car and it’s still in the caller’s name. Caller received a call today from an anonymous person stating person is scamming him. Caller only took $260 from person; he still owes $2,000. Civil matter between parties. Caller said he will give person the weekend to make things right. Advice given to handle through civil court. Document only.
CITIZEN DISPUTE
July 26
3:18 p.m., Old State Road, Parkman. An unknown male in his 40s arrived at the residence and quoted $200 to sealcoat caller’s driveway. She allowed him to sealcoat her drive and then charged her way over the quoted amount. He changed the price to $1,200. Caller paid the male and just wanted the incident documented that the male was being dishonest. No other information provided.
DISORDERLY
July 30
8:13 p.m., Auburn Road, Munson. Bar fight at Legend Lake Golf Club. In the bar at the clubhouse. Male is trying to fight with someone. Two males are attempting to control male. No weapons; male has been drinking. Male ran out back door and just came back in, yelling. No one needs a rescue. He has calmed down and is still in the bar area. Dispatch request CHPD.
FRAUD
July 30
2:56 p.m., Hillview Road, Newbury. Complainant was scammed over the internet, stemming from Panama. Complainant further stated he contacted his credit union and was able to get his money back, but needed a report number for the bank. IR number given along with advice.
OVERDOSE
July 27
5:24 p.m., Fairmount Road, Newbury. 27-year-old male in and out of consciousness. Heroin user. He is in the bedroom. Second page. Squad is transporting male to ER.
THEFT
July 27
9:50 a.m., Burton Windsor Road, Middlefield. Someone stole an antique railroad lamp last night. Light taken from flower bed. Light was yellow/white and blue. Value $400. Light was put in the ground with an aluminum square tube.
Aug. 1
9:17 p.m., Munn Road, Newbury. Caller had 38 soccer balls stolen from his house, valued around $5,000. He believes he knows who may have taken them. Report to follow.
TRAFFIC STOP
July 30
7:28 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Driver was stopped and cited for speed. While at the driver’s door, deputy noticed strong odor of unburnt marijuana. Deputy asked driver where the marijuana was located. He voluntarily opened his center console and surrendered a glass pipe with burnt remains of marijuana and a steel container with marijuana inside of it. Driver also charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
TRESPASSING
July 26
1:57 p.m., Bascom Road, Hambden. Male is “haying” on our field. He is our neighbor and we had an attorney send him a cease and desist letter because he was not using the land property. Today he is here making hay. Dispute over land usage rights. Neighbor has a contract to do hay on the listed address; however, the property manager is advising the contract is void and that he is not to be on the property. Neighbor advised to stay off the property until a court determines rights or he may be charged with trespass.
