The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Aug. 16-22, 2019. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 426 calls during this period.
AGENCY ASSIST
Aug. 16
5:52 a.m., Harbor Street, Conneaut. Explosive sweep for the D-Day Conneaut event.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
Aug. 18
12:13 p.m., Mayfield Road, Munson. Snapping turtle in the middle of the road causing a hazard. GOA.
1:34 p.m., Overlook Road, Munson. There is a raccoon sitting on his porch chair. It won’t leave. It keeps hissing at him. Dispatched after deputy fearlessly removed raccoon from the screened in front porch and took it to yard.
CITIZEN ASSIST
Aug. 17
11:20 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Caller is with a group of people who are lost on the Punderson State Park trails in the woods. They are asking for help getting out. Deputy and ODNR located the group all of whom were OK.
Aug. 19
8:12 a.m., Clay Street, Huntsburg. Son was kicked out of the home last night. Caller would like to talk to a deputy for advice. Son made threats when leaving. Advice given to the father regarding his unruly, violent 16-year-old son.
CITIZEN DISPUTE
Aug. 22
7:49 p.m., Auburn Road, Newbury. Caller is a Newbury trustee and says the rec board and the Geauga Soccer Federation are squabbling over equipment. He would like a deputy just swing by and make sure everything is calm. It is now, but wants to be safe. They are at Newbury Schools. Deputy advised.
FRAUD
Aug. 16
5:27 p.m., Pekin Road, Newbury. Caller reports his soon-to-be ex-partner took $34,000 out of their joint account. He advised it was a civil issue. Report to follow.
Aug. 19
11:49 a.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Complainant is in the lobby and would like to report extortion. Deputy advised. Complainant stated a female friend of his wants money or she is going to make a report on him with the police stating he raped her and tried to kill her.
12:57 p.m., Mumford Road, Troy. Caller received a fraud call. He gave out personal information. Deputy advised. Person who called said the U.S. Marshals were looking for him because a car he rented contained drugs. Caller said he did not recently rent a car and gave the caller his Social Security Number. Caller gave deputy a written statement and would like the incident documented.
HARASSMENT
Aug. 17
11:42 a.m., Thrasher Road, Troy. Caller believes his brother is harassing him. Today he turned on caller’s gas in the trailer. Caller aired his trailer out and does not want to see the officer. Brother is going to deny it. Deputy advised of call.
LITTERING
Aug. 19
2:56 p.m., Plank Road, Montville. Someone dumped a bunch of glass on her property. She suspects her neighbor. Deputy advised. Neighbor said caller is throwing paint rollers in his yard. He also would like to meet with a deputy. Both made litter complaints against each other. No evidence to support either.
SUSPICIOUS
Aug. 21
11:29 a.m., Merritt Road, Munson. Caller reported seeing a Facebook post advising a male molested an 11 year old and solicited a 14-year-old girl. Call clear.
THREATENING
Aug. 22
11:15 a.m., Paradise Drive, Middlefield. Death threats via text from ex-husband. Spoke with caller and reviewed the text messages. No threats were made. Advice given.
WATER RESCUE
Aug. 18
5:10 p.m., Main Market Road, Troy. Two 17-year-old males in kayaks starting point was Crooked River. They rowed to the side and are scared of the storm because it is raining. They are now out of the boats on land. Group is 20 minutes away from starting point. Not sure which park. Another group of missing people. Troy boat has located two of the six missing. Newbury boat is deploying. Contact with last four outstanding parties. Located. Auburn boat off the water. Moving to Iron Horse to stage. Newbury redeployed into water to recover the kayaks.
