Mismanagement

To the people of Troy Township:

Did you know that last year Great Lakes Cheese donated over $100,000 to pave the Community House parking lot and exit driveway?

Last fall, your trustees decided to use concrete on the drive instead of asphalt. Over the winter, the new concrete cracked and some had to be replaced.

In June 2019, the trustees asked for bids to pave the entire parking lot and received to bids for a little over $70,000.

Now they have rejected the idea of paving the parking lot and instead plan to put two or three strips of concrete connecting the two driveways and leave the rest gravel. These strips of concrete will cost more than if they paved the entire lot.

Let your township trustees know what you think about this. Your voice needs to be heard. Trustee meetings are the first and third Tuesday of the month.

Grendell Lacks Good Judgment

I hate to get into a verbal playground battle, but, oh well, here it goes.

The Honorable Judge Timothy J. Grendell recently favored the Maple Leaf with a letter about himself that mentions me. His honor provided us with a list of his donations to various causes. This is not the issue. Nor are our respective generosities. The judge prefers to brag about his; I choose not to.

My initial letter described the expenditure of over $7,500 for an 8-foot inflatable promotional gavel and for thousands of trinkets to give away at the Geauga County Fair. My statements are neither false nor misleading. They are documented by public records from the Juvenile/Probate Court.

I explained that these are foolish and highly questionable uses for public money — our public money. As an example, I said the money could be far better spent on clothing and school supplies for foster children who come before his court. Instead, the judge said that he gives birthday cakes to foster children.

As I’ve said before, this is a judge who lacks good judgment.
