Student Council
On Sept. 19 Notre Dame Elementary School celebrated Mass and welcomed its new student council members into their positions. To be elected to the positions, students had to complete an application, be selected and then interview with the junior high team.
After the interview process, the team chose the new student council members. Student council strives to build community in the school, create a fun atmosphere for all students, provide outreach to those in need and conduct service.
Science Investigations
The fifth-grade students began the month of September investigating scientific tools. They explored various scientific tools and practiced using them while making careful observations, accurate and precise measurements and collecting scientific data. Some activities included using a hand lens and microscopes to make observations, reading and recording volume using graduating cylinders and determining the mass of objects using a pan and triple beam balance. They also measured distance in a marble roll activity and recorded dissolve times of sugar cubes in various water temperatures.
Second-Grade Spotlight
The new second grade teachers are Miss Neff and Mr. Siegel.
“We both feel incredibly fortunate to be working with each other. Being able to share new ideas and help each other has made our transition into second grade smooth,” shared Mr. Siegel and Miss Neff.
Their goal is to combine new curriculum with innovative pedagogy to infuse fresh ideas into second grade.
“We’ve already seen the students embrace our challenges by creating their own prototypes that stop their materials from falling off their desks,” celebrates Mr. Siegel.
NDES is proud to have a strong, collaborative team to make this year challenging for our students, and fun for everyone.
