International Homecoming

Last week, the NDCL Student Activities Board treated the NDCL community to an internationally themed homecoming celebration that was truly out of this world.

The week overflowed with school spirit and special activities, including themed dress down days, special games and food at lunchtime, the traditional all-school homecoming Mass and something brand new this year – a carnival that turned the NDCL campus into a mini version of the Great Geauga County Fair.

On Friday afternoon, the 727 NDCL students and about 120 of their little siblings enjoyed fair treats like cotton candy, snow cones, popcorn and ice cream as they tried their luck at midway games such as ring toss, skeeball, penny toss, plinko and dunk tank. Professional face-painters decorated students’ faces and arms with intricate designs while the Flower Clown strolled the campus fashioning all sorts of imaginative balloon art.

At the end of the carnival, everyone gathered in McGarry Gym for the homecoming rally, which included crowning senior Emma Liberatore as homecoming queen and senior Dan Frindt as homecoming king.

The Lions closed out a great week by rocking the house with the homecoming dance in McGarry Gym on Saturday night.

“We had 715 students at the dance on Saturday night — and not a single problem,” commented Principal Joseph A. Waler. “At the end of the night, the sheriff’s deputy on duty made a point to tell me what an outstanding night it was with our fine students. It truly was a great night that capped off one of NDCL’s best homecoming weeks ever.”

Special thanks to Student Activities Board advisers Susan Ancheta, Ericka Bella, Ben Lozar and Halle McKeon for their creativity and hard work with the students to make Homecoming 2019 a truly world-class celebration of tradition, community and school spirit.
