Grandparents Day
On Oct. 10, students in grades K-2 celebrated a wonderful morning with their grandparents and special guests. Students had the opportunity to show their guests their school, attend Mass, play bingo, enjoy refreshments and perform special songs
Moccasin Program
Fourth-graders culminated their Native American Indian unit by participating in the Moccasin Program at the Lake County Historical Society. The students participated in classroom talks, made pottery and spearhead necklaces and even tried out their skill throwing an atlatl.
Turning Design To Reality
As part of a cross-curricular project, second-graders had the opportunity to design and build their own roller coasters. First, students heard a story about roller coasters then sketched and shared their own designs. Next, they made a prototype of their design and then measured and built a final project. They used design thinking, which provides a solution-based approach to solving problems with hands-on methods.
Design thinking also involves ongoing experimentation: sketching, prototyping, testing and trying out concepts and ideas. It encourages innovative thinking and creative problem solving.
They also took a trial and error approach where children attempt to solve their problems in the now by using trial and error learning. It encourages making mistakes using problem-solving on active experiential processes while collaborating with others.
