The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Nov. 1-7, 2019. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 345 calls during this period.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
Nov. 3
9:28 a.m., Osmond Road, Burton. Cow walking down the road heading southbound between Butternut and Fisher. Cows were put in neighbor’s pasture until neighbor get home.
CITIZEN DISPUTE
Nov. 2
12:22 p.m., Burlington Ridge Drive, Munson. Caller’s daughter and husband are arguing with neighbor. They are blowing leaves back and forth between the yards. Deputy spoke with neighbor about blowing his leaves in caller’s yard. He stated he was not intentionally blowing leaves in their yard and would try to avoid doing so in the future.
FRAUD
Nov. 2
5 p.m., Broadwood Drive, Burton. $840 purchase to credit card for an iPad. It is waiting to be picked up at Walgreen’s in Aurora. Caller did not order this item. He was contacted by Apple. He called Aurora and they told him to start in Geauga. Caller said while shopping at Aurora Farms his credit card was “scammed.” Bank has reimbursed his account and Aurora PD is handling the fraud.
Nov. 4
3:41 p.m., Jug Street, Burton. Complainant purchased two gift cards and provided the codes over the phone. Complainant purchased one $400 and one $900 gift card to obtain a new SSN due to his original SSN being used in a drug ring. Complainant continued to state the telephone number no longer is in service and the message they left has been deleted from cell phone. Complainant advised he understood he fell victim to a scam, but would like incident on file. Advice given.
HARASSMENT
Nov. 5
8:18 a.m., Old State Road, Middlefield. Caller broke up with her boyfriend in the spring because he is a drug user. He is now calling her and harassing/stalking her. He is making threats to come to her work. He was last known to live in Cortland. Caller received 46 calls this morning. Her ex-boyfriend advised he knows where she lives, works and who she talks to. No threats of violence. Advice given on how to obtain a civil protection order. Referred to victim advocate for a protection order. Complainant put in touch with Tracy Jordan who will assist her.
NOISE PROBLEM
Nov. 1
4:16 a.m., Widgeon Drive, Auburn. Resident at this address has been playing the drums all night very loudly. He usually does this two to three times a week. Caller would like a deputy to request he turn it down for the night. Caller does not need to see deputy. No noise could be heard when deputy arrived. Spoke the drummer and advised him of complaint. He advised he was playing drums but quit for the morning.
ROAD RAGE
Nov. 6
7:51 a.m., Auburn Road, Munson. Female waving black handgun out the window. She did point it at complainant. Started in Concord. Suspect vehicle is a black King Ranch.
ROBBERY
Nov. 6
7:08 p.m., South Street, Chardon. Male in a mask just robbed them, unknown weapon. Black Carhart jacket, mask and black pants. He made her go in the back room and shut the door. Unknown vehicle or direction of travel. Happened about five minutes ago. Sounded like he was disguising his voice. One hand was wrapped in a yellow bag. She just handed hm the drawer and he took the money. Happened at Coops Tobacco. Officer attempting to get owner in to get and review video. Report taken and a written statement received. Officers on foot at the plaza.
SUSPICIOUS
Nov. 3
1:20 p.m., Merritt Road, Munson. Suspicious male laying on the sidewalk behind male housing. Deputy advised. Subject was walking a dog from dog warden’s office and was trying to make the dog a little more trusting by laying on the ground.
THEFT
Nov. 5
3:16 p.m., Washington Street, Auburn. Catalytic convertor was cut off his vehicle while it was sitting at the business Def Tone Cycles during the middle of the night. Report taken.
THREATENING
Nov. 1
12:01 p.m., Fairmount Road, Newbury. Complainant was threatened by a former employee/child he cared for over Facebook Messenger who was just released from prison and who was requesting money owed to him. Complainant advised he did not owe him any money and was not going to pay him. Employee messaged back, “I’ll hear from you,” which complainant felt was a threat and wanted to know what could be done about it. Complainant advised it was not a threat and could have any meaning. He was provided with advice and advised to file a report with his local law enforcement.
Nov. 4
3:48 p.m., Pinehurst Drive, Munson. Caller states there are text messages that are threatening to his family. Caller is running for Chardon Schools BOE and has been getting political texts that have turned threatening. Male received post that read, “I may tackle the wife at the pickup next time I see her.” Extra patrol requested.
Nov. 5
7:19 p.m., Claridon Troy Road, Burton. Caller came to lobby to report her teenage son was attacked yesterday by school bully in front of Burton library and they are threatening him now via texts. Threw pop at son and grabbed his neck chain. Caller spoke to the principal and the other student was suspended. Caller has text messages saved to his phone. School recommended a sit down mediation to help resolve issues. Caller wanted to report the matter in the event school does not follow through and the conflict does not get resolved.
TRAFFIC HAZARD
Nov. 6
1:51 p.m., Shaw Road, Auburn. Male reporting bad road conditions. Dust and some type of liquid from fracking. Caller wants to see a deputy. Spoke with job site foreman. He will work on getting a street sweeper to take care of issue.
