The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Dec. 13-19, 2019. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 330 calls during this period.
CITIZEN ASSIST
Dec. 17
8:33 a.m., Ravenna Road, Munson. Junction Pre-Owned building. Complainant found a WWII mortar in his closet. He brought it to work to have someone take a look at it. Deputy advised. Munson FD advised of 40 minute ETA for bomb squad.
FRAUD
Dec. 19
10:52 a.m., Stillwell Road, Huntsburg. Caller says he is involved in a scam. Has sent approximately $8,000 in gift cards and purchased a cell phone from Verizon over the past year. Deputy advised.
INFO REPORT
Dec. 19
1:17 p.m., Oakstone Trail, Chardon. Yesterday around 6 p.m. someone flying a drone in front of the window. Unknown who it is. Wanted on file.
ROAD RAGE
Dec. 16
8:31 p.m., Madison Road, Huntsburg. Deputy flagged down on 528 and 322 by motorist who reported he was south on 528 when he attempted to pass the vehicle in front of him that was traveling slow. He said the vehicle then tried to run him off the road. Deputy conducted a traffic stop with other vehicle and identified the driver, who denied trying to run other guy off the road and said he was speeding up, but it was not an attempt to prevent other car from passing him. He was upset deputy stopped him and initially was uncooperative. He was cautioned on his driving and advised he was free to leave. Other driver had pulled up behind the stop and was informed of the outcome.
THEFT
Dec. 13
11:35 a.m., Gottschalk Parkway, Auburn. Caller took their work van into the shop and the shop said a portion of their vehicle had been sawed off. Another officer advised he handled a theft of a catalytic convertor from a van this morning as well. Report taken.
1:10 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Climbing spurs stolen approximately two weeks ago. Found them at the pawn shop. Caller believes she knows who stole them. Deputy advised.
Dec. 19
1:04 p.m., Munn Road, Auburn. Catalytic convertor stolen from an RV at the business. Caller said he got into his camper today to leave for a trip and noticed it sounded like the exhaust pipe was gone. Checked and discovered someone had sawed the catalytic converter off the camper. Unknown who took it and no cameras at the business.
