Student Council Shops

The students of NDES raised over $1,600 for the Cleveland Clinic Pediatric Cancer Unit in the boys versus girls change challenge. Thanks to the generous matching donation from the Nedley family, student council was able to spend $3,260 on gifts for the children fighting cancer at the Clinic. They did some important online shopping to find the perfect gifts for the children the week before winter break.

Preschool Visits ND Village

Students at the preschool enjoyed an intergenerational experience last week as they visited the residents and Sisters of Notre Dame Village. Everyone enjoyed a special snack, making crafts, visiting with Santa and making fantastic memories. The experience truly shows the joy of Christmas and the impact that students can have in the lives of others.

Letters About Literature

Fifth-grade challenge students recently participated in a Letters About Literature competition where they had to write to an author of their choice explaining how their book impacted their life in some way. They then held an awards assembly at school where all the children had the opportunity to read their letters aloud and celebrated with a breakfast afterwards.

The winners were: Elsa Henderson, first place for her letter to author Chris Calfer about his book, “The Land of Stories”; Lily Rader, second place for her letter to Michelle Knudsen about her book, “Library Lion”; Gordon Yanchar, third place for his letter to Margaret Wise Brown about her book, “Good Night Moon”; and Brendan Rand, honorable mention for his letter to to Roald Dahl about his book, “Fantastic Mr. Fox.”

The winners were given gift cards to Barnes and Noble and a baggie full of goodies to inspire them to keep writing.
