The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office March 27 through April 2, 2020. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 239 calls during this period.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
March 31
6:38 p.m., Woodin Road, Hambden. Caller advised two dogs came onto her property and killed her chickens. Caller has the two dogs in her coop. Dog warden called in.
BURGLARY
March 27
5:19 p.m., Cloverdale Drive, Middlefield. Caller just returned home and stated her house was burglarized. She was gone a week. She let a female stay at the house for one night. TV and everything of value missing. Suspect named. Evidence collected. Report to follow.
DOMESTIC DISPUTE
March 30
11:04 a.m., Peters Road, Middlefield. Caller says his girlfriend is yelling at him for cooking food. Female became upset because they are moving and all plates and pans are packed up. Female did not want male to make a mess.
12:13 p.m., Peters Road, Middlefield. Male causing chaos, wishing everyone was dead. He is drunk. Male spitting on the floor and dumped the mop bucket on the floor because he was not able to cook food. Male is looking for a ride to leave.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
March 28
12:23 p.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. Mother and teenage daughter were fighting. Daughter bit her. No weapons. Can hear her yelling in background. Caller is going through a divorce and daughter is having a hard time dealing with it. This has been ongoing. Now in separate rooms. She is now fighting with her brother. Report taken. One juvenile charged with DV, DOC.
FOUND PROPERTY
March 27
4:44 p.m., Bean Road, Munson. Nero’s Nature Preserve, found a goodies bag with drugs in it. Found in south pavilion. Items brought to dispatch. Marijuana found inside. Container and contents brought to Post 1 to be put in storage. No suspects.
HARASSMENT
March 31
2:53 p.m., Pekin Road, Newbury. Male was released from jail. He was told to stay away from the witness’s home and he is driving by. He is in a green truck and pulling a trailer. He has an American flag attached to the bed on a pole. Caller said bond conditions prohibit it. GCSO will check bond conditions.‹
MEDICAL
March 27
4:27 p.m., Colony Road, Burton. 83-year-old male would like an ambulance to take him to see if he has the coronavirus. He had an eye doctor appointment but they wouldn’t let him in because they said he had a fever. His temp was 100.1. He said he just doesn’t feel good. No transport.
SUSPICIOUS
March 27
12:56 a.m., U.S. 422, Auburn. Caller states when they crossed the bridge they could see something large on the lake. She said it had four large lights on it that were bright. Responding officer just passed over the bridge on 44 and observed the object reported. It’s a boat with people fishing.
12 p.m., Dewey Road, Thompson. Two days ago the caller was almost hit by a small dark sports car and her sister said something similar happened to her. Deputy called subject who did not answer the phone. Message was left for her to contact the deputy.
March 28
10:22 a.m., Butternut Road, Newbury. Strange man found on porch, in pajamas. He left with a jacket the caller gave him. Porch is enclosed, heated. He was going through a desk when the dogs started barking. Male left without incident. Male arrested.
March 29
12:37 a.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. Caller states he called earlier to advise of multiple illegal immigrants running around outside, 15-20 of them. He states he was trying to tell deputies what direction to go, from his window. He could see deputies there. Caller states they have been running around in the area all night, in the area of Venus. Deputy spoke with caller, who appeared to be having some hallucinations. Deputy entered the residence and caller had a .22 rifle on the couch and a large knife on the floor by the door. Rifle was unloaded. Caller’s brother told to secure rifle and knife, and to watch his brother and contact GCSO if further assistance is needed. Caller had numerous facial blemishes leading deputy to believe he is abusing meth, however, caller did not appear to currently be high and might be experiencing side effects from usage earlier in day.
9:22 a.m., Tavern Road, Burton. Caller wants a deputy to break up a large party at home. Deputy responded. It is a religious ceremony with a large group of Amish. They were advised of the complaint and asked to try to keep distance and safe practices.
12:35 p.m., Georgia Road, Middlefield. Large group meeting. Caller thinks this is dangerous due to coronavirus. Amish gathering claiming to be church.
April 1
10:46 a.m., Chadwick Court, Auburn. Illegal alcohol sales. Facebook, selling mixed martinis. Selling them from the home. Two subjects are the ones reported to be doing this without a license per caller. No activity seen at the home. Attempted to contact Ohio Liquor Control. Unable to get through. Will try at a later date. Extra patrol for illegal sales of alcohol.
