GOP Open House, Fundraiser

The Geauga County Republican Party is hosting an open house with Congressman Dave Joyce Aug. 6 from 5-7 p.m. at its headquarters at the Chase Bank Building, 100 Center St., Suite 310, Chardon. Guests are asked to park in the back parking lot and to bring a mask to wear. There will be a canopy in the grassy area behind the building for those who do not want to come into the office.

Then, on Aug. 17 from 5-7 p.m., GOP Chairman Nancy McArthur and Terry and Lisa Profughi are hosting a fundraiser in support of Ohio Supreme Court Justices Sharon Kennedy and Judi French at the Profoughi’s Meadowlane Farms in Chardon. HomeGrown Geauga 2020

Aug. 7, 7:30-9 p.m.

Geauga Growth Partnership’s annual HomeGrown Geauga fundraising event is going virtual. The live streaming event features pre-party entertainment, videos and live interviews. Join emcees Scott Mihalic, auctioneer, and Kimm Leininger, president and CEO of GGP, for an evening of silent and live auctions, $5,000 cash raffle and entertainment.

VFW Aux. Breakfast Raffle

Aug. 9

Chardon VFW Auxiliary is serving breakfast from 9-10 a.m. followed by a $500 raffle at 10:15 a.m. Breakfast includes pancakes, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, french toast and more. Donation is $15.

DTJ Harvest Day

Aug. 9, 12-5 p.m.

DTJ Taborville’s 86th annual Harvest Day Festival will be held at Taborville located at the corner of Bartholomew and Quinn roads in Auburn Township.

Czech foods for dine in or take out will be available from noon to 5 p.m. Czech beer will be available at the bar.

Music will be provided by Frank Moravick. T-shirts and other Czech items will also be for sale.

Bring lawn chairs or blankets. No coolers or pets.

Kiwanis Summer Concert Series

Aug. 12, 7 p.m.

The West Geauga Kiwanis Club Bandstand Summer Concert Series continues at the gazebo in Chester Township Park with Ted Riser, aka the Music Man, performing a blend of Southern rock, country and

blues while playing five instruments.

In the event of rain, concerts will be canceled. Kiwanis encourages the standard Covid-19 precautions with social distancing and masks are recommended.

13th Annual Dice Run

Aug. 15

Sign-in for Chardon Post 6519’s 13th annual Dice Run begins at 10:30 a.m. at the post located at 752 Water St. Bikes depart at 11 a.m. and last bike in is at 3:30 p.m.

The run will have fewer stops this year. All stops have outdoor facilities or large canteen areas for social distancing. Masks are required per state guidelines.

Donation is $20 per rider and $5 per passenger. Event includes 50/50, pull tabs and cash for high and low dice roll.

Food will be provided at the end of the run with a cash bar.

American Legion Barbecue

Aug. 15, 5-7 p.m.

The Newbury American Legion is hosting a Texas style chicken barbecue at 11008 Kinsman Road in Newbury Township. Cost is $15 at the door, or $12 advance sale.

EAA Flying Start Program

Aug. 23, 1 p.m.

Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 5 is hosting a Flying Start informational program on learning to fly at Hangar 3 of the Geauga County Airport, 15421 Old State Road in Middlefield. The event will cover the steps and requirements in learning to fly, provide tips on how to make it economical and will culminate in a free introductory flight.
