Free Community Giveaway

Sept. 10 and 11, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A free giveaway of clothing for the family, books, holiday theme decorations, linens and housewares will be held at Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road, Chardon. Masks and social distancing are required.

Free Meal Kits

Sept. 12 and 26, 11 a.m. to noon

Free meal kits will be available at the Community Church of Chesterland, 11984 Caves Road.

Each kit includes an entree for two that includes a protein, fruit, vegetables and a breakfast item. A recipe accompanies each kit, which is packaged in a bag that can be given contact free to individuals and families.

The church plans to continue providing kits every other Saturday through October.

Chardon VFW Events

Chardon VFW Post 6519 will be open Sundays starting Sept. 13 from 12-6 p.m. and will offer beer and food specials.

Then, on Sept. 26 from 5:30-7 p.m., the post will serve a homemade lasagna dinner. Donation is $12. Reservations are required; only 60 dinners available.

Protect Geauga Parks

Sept. 14, 7:30 p.m.

Join Protect Geauga Parks for a Conservation Conversation with John Sabin, of Citizens’ Climate Lobby, via a Zoom. Sabin will present “Democracy is the Solution to Climate Change: an Introduction to Citizens’ Climate Lobby.”

The webinar is free, but guests must pre-register to attend. After registering, a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar will be sent.

Audubon Features Birds in Space

Sept. 15, 7 p.m

Blackbrook Audubon resumes its monthly speaker programs with Chris Mentrek, astronomy naturalist with Geauga Park District, in a virtual presentation, “Birds in Space: Birds in Constellations and Starlore.” Viewers will learn how birds showed up in the astronomical knowledge of Native Americans of the Great Lakes region.

Get SepticSmart

Sept. 17, 6-7 p.m.

The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District, Geauga Public Health and Geauga West Library will host a free online SepticSmart program. Join for an informative presentation with Dave Sage and Zach Myers, registered sanitarians with Geauga Public Health, to discuss how a home septic system works, how to maintain a home sewage treatment system and what to do when it appears to not be working properly.

DTJ Clambake

Sept. 20, 1-3 p.m.

DTJ Taborville is holding a clambake at its location in Auburn Township at the intersection of Bartholemew and Quinn roads. By reservation only, cost is $26 per bake. Extra clams are $9 per dozen. A children’s meal will be available for $4.

Masks are to be worn while in line and at the bar. Czech beer is available at the bar.

United Way Annual Meeting

Sept. 22, 10:30 a.m. to noon

Join United Way Services of Geauga County for a meaningful conversation with Mark Swaim-Fox, executive director of Facing History and Ourselves’ Cleveland office. Sharing his personal experience, Mark will discuss the importance of building a more inclusive and equitable future for all members of the community.

The virtual event is free to attend and open to the public.

Common Ground Discussion

Co-hosted by Geauga County Public Library, Geauga Growth Partnership, Kent State University Geauga and Leadership Geauga, the “Count Me In” conversation will focus on equity and inclusion in Geauga County’s workforce and business community. Huntsburg Turkey Dinner

Oct. 3, 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Huntsburg Congregational Church will hold a turkey dinner drive-thru and pickup at the church located at 12435 Madison Road, Huntsburg.

Cost is $10 for an adult portion dinner with pumpkin pie. 50/50 raffle tickets are six for $5.
