Virtual Candidates Forum

The League of Women Voters of Geauga will host a virtual candidates forum. Candidate races will be recorded via Zoom and then shared on the LWVG You-Tube channel. G-TV will also rebroadcast the event on Spectrum channel 1020.
Brief presentations by each candidate will be followed by questions asked by the moderator.

FGP Explorer Series

The Foundation for Geauga Parks is hosting its monthly Explorers Series at Scenic River Retreat, 10900 Mayfield Road in Munson Township. Representatives of the Western Reserve Land Conservancy will be on hand to talk about the natural features of the property.

Drive-in Movie, Join Pack 3141
Oct. 3, 6 p.m.
Middlefield Cub Scout Pack 3141 invites local families to join for a movie and learn about the pack at the Middlefield Ministry Campus, 14715 Old State Road, Middlefield. Pack 3141 serves kids in grades K-5. Come and decorate cardboard boxcars that the children can drive into the outdoor movie theater to watch “Up.”
There will be refreshments and a fire to keep warm. Leaders will help new members fill out applications, answer questions and provide information.
Registration assistance is available, ensuring that no child gets left out due to an inability to pay.
Bring a blanket, towel or pad to sit on. Wearing a mask is recommended. Hand sanitizer will be provided.
DTJ Chicken and Duck Dinner
Oct. 4, 12-2 p.m.
DTJ Taborville is hosting a chicken and duck dinner at 9850 North Blvd., Auburn Township. Cost is $12.50 for an adult dinner and $6.50 for a children’s chicken dinner. A half duck dinner is $17.50 on site or to go.
Enjoy music by Anthony Culkar from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Czech beers are available at the bar. Masks are required in bar room and while in line.

Good Deeds Programs

Learn all about “The Moon,” Earth’s closest neighbor in the universe during a virtual program offered through a collaboration of Foundation for Geauga Parks, Chagrin Valley Astronomical Society, Geauga County Library System, Burton Public Library and Geauga Park District. Hazardous Waste Collection

The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District will hold a free hazardous waste collection at Geauga County Engineer’s yard, 12665 Merritt Road, Chardon.

Happy Tails Halloween Benefit
Oct. 10, 3-6 p.m.
A “Happy (Tails) Halloween” fundraiser to benefit the non-profit, no-kill Happy Tails Cat Sanctuary will be held at Billy’s – A Cappelli Martini Bar, 7338 Industrial Park Blvd., Mentor.
To meet social distancing guidelines, the event will be held both indoors and under a large tent outdoors and will feature a dinner buffet, silent auction, 50/50 raffle and cash bar. Tickets are $35 per person and will be held at the door unless requested in advance.

American Legion Pig Roast

Newbury American Legion Post 663 is hosting its annual pig roast and pie auction at the post located at 11008 Kinsman Road in Newbury Township. Event includes a special appearance by Black Beast and the Patriot Truck.
Donations are $12 in advance or $15 at the door.

Geauga Jeep Invasion
Oct. 11
Rotary Club of Burton-Middlefield along with Junction Auto Family and others are sponsoring the Geauga Jeep Invasion for the Veterans. The jeep drive through scenic Geauga County begins, rain or shine, at Mayfield Road Drive-In Theatre, 12100 state Route 322, Chardon.
Registration is at 8:30 a.m. The drive starts at 10 a.m. and ends back at the drive-in at 11 a.m. Sponsor recognition is at 11:15 a.m.
First 200 jeeps receive a goodie bag and bottled water. Twenty door door prizes will be awarded.
Donation is $20 per jeep. All proceeds benefit veteran services.
