Sept. 25-Oct. 1, 2020

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Sept. 25-Oct. 1, 2020.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Sept. 25

9:03 p.m., Clay Street, Montville. Caller’s husband broke her nose; she’s now outside. No children in the home. Caller is outside and husband inside. No weapons, no drug or alcohol use. Caller is refusing EMS. Male is now upstairs getting ready for bed; caller is trying to clean her nose. Husband is not aware she called the police. Male is now laying on the couch downstairs; caller states she panicked when he kicked her on the stairs. Report will be sent to prosecutor for review.

Sept. 26

9:56 p.m., Thompson Road, Thompson. Caller’s husband came home drunk and struck her in the face. Male is intoxicated; female has had one drink. No weapons. Male is in the backyard; his father is supposed to pick him up. Female stated she slapped the male first because he was in caller’s face and he slapped her back. Male is now arguing with grandmother. Male is not aware police have been called. Husband and wife were both arrested on DV charges.

DRUGS

Sept. 28

9:45 a.m., Kirtland Road, Chardon. Caller is a delivery driver. He advised someone is growing marijuana on the property. White vehicle also had a lot of drug paraphernalia in it. There are two plants by the fuel oil tank. He said the entire basement is full of plants.

EXTRA PATROL

Sept. 25

3:09 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Geauga County Democratic Party is requesting a deputy’s car to sit at the lot. Car can be unoccupied. Many people are harassing the employees and stealing items. Caller believes someone is going to get really hurt. Caller advised he is trying to follow chain of command, however, he can go directly to the sheriff. Deputy advised.

FIRE

Sept. 27

10:36 p.m., Mumford Road, Troy. Bale of hay on fire in the intersection of Mumford and Main Market roads. Assisted the FD as needed. Area checked and no one was around.

FRAUD

Sept. 29

9:48 a.m., Brakeman Road, Hambden. Caller received a call about winning money. Dispatch advised her it was fraud, but she isn’t sure if she should buy the gift cards and see if she really did win. Caller seemed somewhat confused. Advised complainant to not give gift card information over phone. She has not provided any information to the caller.

NOISE PROBLEM

Sept. 28

7:32 a.m., Munn Road, Newbury. Caller says an industrial establishment on Queen Road, off of Munn Road, runs tow-motor equipment at 6 a.m. seven days a week at a noise level that seems to be above the allowed levels for that time of day. Deputy needs to call complainant. Deputy attempted to call complainant twice to discuss his noise complaint, but no answer. Deputy left a message advising complainant to contact Auburn Township about the noise complaint.

SUSPICIOUS

Sept. 28

6:59 a.m., Mentor Road, Chardon. Someone threw flyers in caller’s yard. He feels intimidated. Political papers were thrown onto caller’s yard near his opposing political signs. Advice given.

THEFT

Sept. 26

8:17 p.m., Madison Road, Middlefield. Male subject rented a limo for the night with 10 people and then refused to pay for it, $300. Caller is the driver. Driver went back to Brookpark to drop limo off. Male threatened to call police on driver and told him if he charges him for the limo ride he will dispute the charge. Company does not have male’s credit card information anyway. See report.

Sept. 27

2:21 p.m., Butternut Road, Burton. Caller would like to report his Trump sign was stolen again. Does not need to see anyone, just wants it documented.

Sept. 29

12:57 p.m., Hart Road, Montville. 9 mm taken from inside the garage last Wednesday. Gun entered as stolen.

Sept. 30

3:55 p.m., Madison Road, Montville. Caller has been having people stealing maple syrup from his produce stand. Has video.

TRAFFIC CRASH

Sept. 29

1:57 p.m., Wilson Mills Road, Munson. Vehicle rolled over and hit a tree. There is a baby in car. Caller thinks driver is intoxicated. Lanes, OVI, child endangering.

TRESPASSING

Sept. 29
7:45 a.m., Forest Road, Claridon. Caller said someone keeps coming onto her property and is moving her Chief Wahoo sign from place to place. Extra patrol requested.

VANDALISM

Sept. 28

2:04 p.m., Bartholomew Road, Auburn. Damage to his signs and messages, and litter left on this lawn. Spoke with complainant on phone. He said sometime today an unknown person printed out a piece of paper (“Pick up your f—ing trash you godless, treasonous supporter of baby & cop killing filth”). Said he did not see it done, just found them when he went out to walk his dogs. Requesting extra patrol.

Oct. 1

8:36 a.m., Auburn Road, Auburn. Unknown party left a bunch of flyers beside caller’s political sign. Flyers stated, “Pick up your f—ing trash you godless, treasonous supporter of baby & cop killing filth.” Extra patrol requested.
