Chardon Seeks New Scoreboard Through Car Raffle

The Chardon Athletic Department will raffle off tickets for a chance to win a 2020 GMC Terrain in effort to raise funds for a new scoreboard at Memorial Field.

The Chardon Athletic Department will raffle off tickets for a chance to win a 2020 GMC Terrain in effort to raise funds for a new scoreboard at Memorial Field.

The vehicle, donated by Junction Auto Family, is black with impressive features, said Doug Snyder, Chardon athletic director.

Tickets are available now for $25 and are sold online at chardonathletics.org.

“That’s the beauty of it,” Snyder said. “You can be an alumni from Chicago and buy a ticket right now. Anyone can buy as many tickets as they’d like.”

The scoreboard at Memorial Field is original when the new stadium was built 21 years ago, Snyder said.

“They don’t make parts for it anymore,” he said. “Through the magic of Dave Jevnikar and Chris May of maintenance, we’ve kept it going. But we’ve reached a point it needs to be replaced.”

Snyder said a new scoreboard can range from $50,000 to $200,000 depending on the features.

There is currently a scoreboard fund and the raffle will be earmarked specifically to replace the scoreboard.

The drawing is tentatively scheduled for Feb. 5 at halftime of a boys varsity basketball game against Riverside.
