The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Feb. 26-March 4, 2021.
AGENCY ASSIST
March 2
3:48 p.m., Chardon Road, Chardon. Kirtland PD has been attempting to stop an ATV but it continues to take off from officer. Officer again approaching the ATV on the north side of the road on Geauga side. Young male driver on yellow bike. Assisted. Male not located.
ASSAULT
Feb. 28
3:08 p.m., Nash Road, Parkman. Caller sounds like he is crying. Advised “man of the house” had a male come over to the house, but the male came inside and assaulted caller. Caller does not want to answer questions; said he wants to “call off” the assault report. Caller is 19 years old. No one else assaulted. Caller believes they left. Deputy told male came to the house to buy guns and took the guns with him. No threats made with guns. Male hit caller in the face and threatened to beat him up. Called male a “family wrecker.” Male is not Amish. Caller claims he does not know male. Caller is moving out with male’s wife, but says he is not in a relationship with her. Male is upset about caller moving out with his wife and was encouraging other male to assault caller. Male left in a pickup truck.
BURGLARY
March 2
3:05 p.m., Hayes Road, Middlefield. Caller believes someone broke into her house — desk, files and papers are thrown all over the house. Caller will be waiting in her car. Caller believes it happened in last four hours. Also, bedroom drawers were open and $1,000 stolen from it. Report to follow.
CITIZEN ASSIST
March 1
2:07 p.m., Daniel Lane, Hambden. Caller received some phone calls about winning money. She was advised it was likely a scam but still seemed confused as to what to do. Caller received two phone calls from an unknown male stating she won $3 million and he had to deliver the money tonight. She did not give out any personal information. Caller told to contact GCSO if someone is at her door whom she doesn’t know asking for money or is there to “deliver” money. Likely a scam. Extra patrol.
5:04 p.m., Auburn Road, Munson. On the road a Kenston van driver uses his cell while driving caller’s child on more than one occasion. She wishes to make a complaint. Caller advised her son came home with a mask around his neck due to aide not observing driver put the mask around his neck. After further review of video, noticed the driver to be speeding and possibly using his cell phone. Deputy reviewed portions of video and observed driver looking down between his legs, possibly at a cell phone while at a stop sign. Caller already has contacted JFS and Kenston. Both the driver and aide were disciplined and reassigned according to letter received from Kenston. Advice given to contact JFS and follow up with her initial complaint since she has not heard back from them.
Feb. 27
11:42 a.m., Oak Tree Trail, Newbury. They are doing a project for the homeowner at this address and neighbor to the north keeps coming over and causing a problem with the crew. Older male. Installers have to be on neighbor’s property to repair a fence. Neighbor does not want them on his property. Responding officer advised installers they cannot be on neighbor’s property if he doesn’t want them on there. Advised client the only resolution would be moving the fence and additional 12 inches so installers would not have to encroach onto neighbor’s property.
FRAUD
Feb. 26
6:51 p.m., Thwing Road, Chardon. IR requested. Spoke with complainant who said she received a pre-paid bank card in the mail. Advice given to contact Ohio JFS, Social Security and credit check websites.
JUVENILE PROBLEM
March 3
10:05 a.m., Maple Avenue, Chardon. Caller advised her young son has been bullied regularly since the beginning of school. Caller states another student threatened to shoot her son. Deputies to handle. Spoke with caller and Chardon PD dispatch. Miscommunication on court officer’s part and CPD wants caller to return. Caller advised she is en route to CPD for the report. Chardon officer will be handling.
MEDICAL
Feb. 26
8:51 p.m., Aquilla Road, Claridon. Passerby saw a female laying on the ground, outside of car. Female said she needs help; she said she is hurt and dying and crying. Second caller believes it is a domestic. Unknown if male has weapons. Tall lengthy guy, white male glasses. Female is trying to crawl back into the car. Male and female engaged, but not living together. They were involved in an argument. She struck him in the head at which time he “slammed on the breaks” and she exited the car. Female declined medical treatment and declined charges. Both were OK with driving home together. Report to follow.
Feb. 28
5:18 a.m., Kidd Drive, Newbury. Adult female thinks she got drugged after she went to bar. Female asked caller to come get her from the bar. Caller says female said she wasn’t feeling right and wanted him to come get her. When she got home she slept, then woke up and was crying uncontrollably. Female hovering over toilet. Female highly intoxicated; residents stated female was not drugged. FD transported female to hospital for head pain.
SUSPICIOUS
Feb. 26
2:03 p.m., Taylor Wells Road, Claridon. Short woman, dark hair jumped out of her vehicle and took photos of the caretaker’s house and took off. UTL.
Feb. 28
4:52 a.m., Bass Lake Road, Newbury. Caller says she saw an adult running up the street screaming “Oh my God.” Male ran west then north on Bass Lake toward Pekin. No description of male. UTL/GOA.
THEFT
Feb. 27
7:49 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Female stole some items. Employee confronted her and female became verbal with employee. Female left the store without paying for an item on the bottom of her shopping cart. She was confronted in the parking lot and went back into the store and paid for the item. Store employee advised female was known for taking items in the past and store no longer wants her in the store. Advice given.
