The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office April 2-8, 2021.
AGENCY ASSIST
April 7
6:34 p.m., Center Road, Perry. Deputy and K9 en route for bomb threat at power plant. Now reportedly a bomb strapped to a person sitting in a car on the property.
CITIZEN ASSIST
April 4
5:43 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. 12-year-old boy’s bicycle broke while he was at U.S. 322 and Old State Road. Peddle broke off and deputy was unable to fix it. Bike was secured in gas station’s shed and boy was given a ride home.
CITIZEN DISPUTE
April 8
3:02 p.m., Dianne Drive, Newbury. Caller chased a FedEx driver through Newbury into Bainbridge after the driver threw a package at his car. During this time caller says he and FedEx driver ran four stop signs. Caller is very upset about the incident and was instructed to return to his home and stop chasing the FedEx driver. He is not sure if he wants a report or not. Deputy advised and spoke with caller’s mother. Mom will tell her son to stop at GCSO if he wants to make a report.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
April 3
1:17 p.m., Sherman Road. Husband was breaking some pots. He also pushed caller. No weapons. No alcohol or drug use. He is mad at caller for selling things without telling him. He is leaving now. Officer responded for a DV report.
FOUND PROPERTY
April 5
11:39 a.m., Fairmount Road, Newbury. Gun found in the roadway last night. Gun not stolen. Logged and entered into evidence.
FRAUD
April 7
12:47 p.m., Campton Ridge Drive, Chardon. Caller spoke with someone yesterday regarding fraudulent use of her credit cards. Today after canceling/freezing cards she is again receiving notifications that her cards have been used. Scammer is supposed to call again today at 4 p.m. and caller wants to know how a deputy would have her speak to this person in an attempt to catch them in the act and charge them. Caller given advice on how to get the fraud calls to stop.
JUNK VEHICLE
April 2
2:42 p.m., Brakeman Road, Hambden. Old dump trailer left on property for at least two years by contractor. Deputy handling. Spoke to complainant who advised he would file junk/abandoned vehicle with the state. Trailer owner will not return complainant’s calls.
SUSPICIOUS
April 4
6:52 p.m., Tallow Tree Drive, Munson. Caller’s grandchildren were playing in the cul-de-sac when two cars with several people were asking inappropriate questions such as take off your shirt, let’s trade. They talked with accents. Deputy spoke with grandson who said he had been asked by two females and a younger male to trade shirts. Grandson declined. Deputy located the SUV in question on Tallow Tree and spoke with driver, who said her family has an annual scavenger hunt on Easter and trading shirts with a stranger was one of the items on the list. She apologized and said they would not be doing scavenger hunt any longer. Complainant advised of findings.
April 5
2:08 p.m., Quail Woods Drive, Chardon. Found mouse traps and dead mice at end of driveway. Same thing has happened to caller’s neighbor. Deputy responded. One mousetrap with a dead mouse found on driveway. No leads as to who may have put it there.
April 7
1:07 p.m., Sawmill Road, Hambden. Letter in the mail and caller would like advice on whether it is fraudulent. Deputy arrived on scene and spoke to complainant about a letter indicating she would receive a lot of money. Letter was obviously phishing attempt based on several factors such as poor grammar and improper use of English language. Complainant did not respond and will follow up with post office.
April 8
6:58 p.m., Auburn Road, Munson. Caller received several letters and strange package with powder on it. She already has filed a report previously. She has been having issues and she believes someone entered her house through the attic. Her taillights were also busted out two weeks ago. She place the package in a plastic bag.
TRAFFIC HAZARD
April 5
12:06 p.m., Turner Drive, Aquilla. Complainant said the contractor for plowing the roads is dumping extra salt on the road. Mayor won’t do anything and if it’s not illegal, then he should be able to dump oil all over the road. Would like to speak with a deputy. Complaint of dumping sale unnecessarily at the intersection of Gordon and Turner by plow contractor.
