Michael D. Young
MIDDLEFIELD – Michael D. Young, 65, of Middlefield, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 31, 2021, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
He was born on May 30, 1956, in Painesville, to William “Joe” and Elaine (nee Glessner) Young, and was a lifelong area resident.
Mike married his soulmate and true love, Cindy (nee McGurer), in East Claridon on Oct. 11, 1980.
Mike, known warmly as Mikey, was a kind, generous, loving soul. He was a superman to all who knew him. Always quick to help in any way that he could, his selflessness knew no bounds.
If there was something to be fixed, he would find a clever solution to the problem. If he heard of someone in need, he was the first to show up to help. If there was a project for family or friends, he was there every day until it was finished.
Mike spent his time creating artwork, biking, running, hiking, playing softball and, of course, lawn care. He also gave of himself to volunteer for Santa’s Hide-A-Way Hollow and donated more than 26 gallons of blood over his lifetime.
Mike’s calm, gentle demeanor made him a natural as godfather to his great-nephew, Carter, a role he enjoyed and treasured.
He was hard working all his life, spending 45 years at Stock Equipment in Bainbridge Township, then several years with Hamden Township after retiring in 2019.
His love of ice cream and t-shirts could only be shadowed by his love for his family.
Mike will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 41 years, Cindy; mother, Elaine Young, of Chardon; sons, Michael P. and Kyle G. Young, of Burton; brother, Eric (Carla) Young, of Chardon; sisters, Holly (Chuck) Boros, Carol (Ken) Pritt and Wendy (Doug) Daugherty, all of Chardon; extended family Markus Polder, of Landvetter, Sweden; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Joe (William).
A memorial service will be held Monday, Aug. 9, 2021, at Horizon Christian Assembly, 14920 White Road, Middlefield, immediately following calling hours with Pastor Patrick Robinson officiating. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. at the church.
A private family burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Geauga Humane Society Rescue Village, 5463 Chillicothe Road, Novelty, OH 44072.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Potti & Marc F. Burr Funeral Homes of Painesville, Madison, Fairport Harbor and Chardon. Obituary, online condolences and memorial gifts available at www.marcfburrfuneralhome.com.
