Lunch Program Grows
Thank you for supporting Kenston’s Nutrition Services Department. District children can benefit from the free lunches provided through the end of the 2022 school year.
A free breakfast program started at the high school on Jan. 26, which will be soon expanding to the middle school.
During the 2018-19 school year, the staff served a total of 129,279 meals all year. As of the end of December, they only needed to prepare 1,932 more meals to meet that total, which they now have surpassed, and they are only halfway through the academic year.
Districtwide, 63 percent of students are eating school lunches, which is an increase of over 36 percent, which equals nearly 1,000 students eating school lunches daily. The highest percentage of participation is at Kenston Intermediate School with 70 percent.

In January, Kenston High School students received 10 awards for their projects in the 2022 Scholastic Art and Writing competition.
KHS honorees earned two Gold Key awards, two Silver Key awards and six honorable mentions.
Gold Key winners automatically advance to national judging. Work is selected for national recognition based on three criteria: originality, technical skill and emergence of a personal vision or voice. National awards will be announced in March.
Kenston’s Mara DuBay earned a Gold Key award and three honorable mentions. Katelyn Torres garnered one Gold Key, a Silver Key and an honorable mention.
Erin McFadden collected a Silver Key award and honorable mention honors.
Projects included art portfolios, drawing and illustration and painting.
The winning artwork will be displayed at the Cleveland Institute of Art’s Reinberger Gallery through Jan. 28.
KHS Afterprom Sneaker Drive
Help raise funds for the Kenston High School After Prom by donating old sneakers to be repurposed and recycled into playground mulch. The KHS PTO will be collecting the worn out shoes at Kenston Schools and around the community through Jan. 28. Help support the environment by keeping the shoes out of the landfills all while helping the KHS Afternoon Prom. Sneakers only, please.
