Science Fair

All sixth- and seventh-grade students participated in the NDES Science Fair along with two fifth-grade students. Each student individually brainstormed to devise an investigative question, then designed and carried out an experiment. They put into action each step of the scientific process from generating a hypothesis and identifying variables to analyzing results.

Students proudly displayed their trifold boards highlighting their experiments and were interviewed by a team of judges. The judges assessed the students in various categories such as effective use of the scientific process, clarity of expression, and originality and creativity. It was a spectacular learning opportunity for the students to develop their scientific processing skills and practice their presentation skills.

Spelling Bee

Nineteen students from grades four through eight, who had already proved their spelling abilities on the spelling bee pretest, and in their classroom spelling bees, came together to compete in the 2021-22 NDES Spelling Bee, on Jan. 19.

The NDES Spelling Bee Champion is fifth-grader Lila Novotney who correctly spelled the word “mortification.” Runner-up was eighth-grader Lauren Corwin and taking third place was seventh-grader Jody Said-Salloum. NDES is proud of all the participants.
