Teachers Association Grants

Kenston greatly appreciates the Geauga County Retired Teachers Association for awarding Kenston Intermediate School teacher Mark Goodine and Kenston High School math teacher and Giving Garden advisor Connie Kramer with educator grants.

Mr. Goodine will use the $250 grant to purchase a classroom set of Soroban Abacus. The abacus will help students increase their understanding of place value and improve their ability to calculate mentally. The use of an abacus will also expose and enrich the children with cultural tools from African and Asian mathematical systems where the abacus was more commonly used.

Mrs. Kramer will use the $250 grant at the high school to support the Kenston Giving Garden initiative to create a Sensory Garden. Forty-five students and three teachers will be involved in caring for and harvesting herbs in the Sensory Garden to donate to local food pantries.
