Lions Clinch State Championship

In a thrilling finish at the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches State Tournament on March 5, the Lions clinched the state championship in the 4 x 400-meter relay.

Juniors Danny Yanick and Javon King and seniors Tim Herczog and Andrew Ryan won the race with a time of 3:26.

Their win qualified the Lions to compete in the Adidas Track Nationals in Virginia Beach on March 18-20. Junior Brian Bates will also compete in the Adidas meet based upon his outstanding performance in the 800-meter run earlier this season.

Hard Hatted Lions Check Out Stream Erosion Project

Last week students in Elizabeth Ford’s environmental science class joined members of NDCL’s Conservation Club for a field visit of the erosion control project currently underway just north of Lion Stadium.

Christina Znidarsic, project team leader from Davey Resource Group, met with the students via Zoom prior to taking them out in the field for a tour of the project, which involves installing a staircase of gigantic boulders in the stream to slow erosion. This spring Mrs. Ford hopes the students can return to the site to assist with planting pollinators and other native plants to stabilize the re-graded embankment.

According to Notre Dame Schools President Michael Bates, the erosion control project has been in the planning stages since 2019. Notre Dame Schools secured a matching grant from the Ohio EPA to help fund the project. The EPA also certified that the project is environmentally friendly downstream.
