Claridon Township residents who missed the Getting Down with the Town social event last year may want to save the afternoon of Aug. 7 to meet up with their neighbors and have some fun.
From 5-8 p.m. at the Claridon Recreation Park, disc jockey Jason Atkins will fill the air with music while residents eat, play games and visit with old friends and new acquaintances, said township Trustee Jonathan Tiber.
“I want it to be an old school type of community gathering,” he said. “Last year, without advertising or sponsors, we had 170 residents show up. This year, we are hoping for about 500.”
With food trucks from Fat Daddy’s, Vinnie’s and East Coast Custard, visitors can enjoy a meal, try their skills at cornhole, or play a game of tic-tac-go or bocce ball, Tiber said.
He will be giving away door prizes and sharing tidbits of Claridon Township history throughout the afternoon, he said.
A blow-up slide has been donated anonymously for kids’ entertainment.
When the first Get Down started off last year, Tiber recalls Atkins asking him what genre of music he should play.
“I told him he was the pro and he should read the crowd,” he said, but the trustee was unprepared for what followed. “He started off with ‘Baby Shark’ and all the little kids started dancing.”
A number of Claridon residents met their neighbors for the first time, as well, Tiber said.
He is hoping for the same result – on a larger scale – on Aug. 7.
