Rally for Women’s Rights
On July 24, I went to the Rally for Women’s Rights on Chardon Square. It was attended by women and men in their 20s to over 70 years of age. All were passionate about a women’s right to reproductive freedom.
Whether you are for abortion or against it, the fact is that the recent reversal of Roe v. Wade took away a right that women have had for over 50 years. Repeat, a super-conservative Supreme Court took away a right — the right of women to make medical decisions for her own body.
Each pregnancy is unique and only a woman and her doctor know her unique situation. I would not presume to make that decision for another woman. Neither should the government. What right will be taken away next? Voting? Marriage equality?
Protect your rights. Our Democratic candidates are for protecting reproductive freedom, fair education, voting access and workers’ rights, to name a few.
Vote for Democrats this November. Vote for Nan Whaley for governor, Abby Kovacs for Ohio state representative, Tim Ryan for U.S. Senate and Matt Kilboy for Congress. Make your voice heard.

‘Plain Poor Judgement’
Russell Trustee Mr. James Mueller has seemingly turned his back on or completely forgotten the history of the Russell Police Department.
As a trustee, he was elected to represent Russell and all of its employees. Instead, he has chosen to select only one, Mr. Tim Carroll. He first wanted to name the police station after him. The other trustees would not go along with this idea.
He them put forth a motion to present a large plaque, which he took the liberty to compose complete with shamrocks and “GOD Speed” wording. This is to be installed at the police station at a cost of $2,800 plus installation.
Mr. Carrol retired once and was rehired, and recently retired again a second time. Mr. Carroll was a good employee.
I find it inconceivable for two trustees to ignore the unquestionable loyalty and dedication to service for two previous constables, Mr. Bernard Larson and Mr. Bill Devoe, three previous police chiefs, Mr. Richard Mitchell, Mr. Richard Hallstrum and Mr. Richard Schneider, with Mr. Carroll being only one-sixth of the equation.
These men built the Russell Police Department, working under difficult conditions. A storage closet in the town hall and later in a renovated fruit stand. Mr. Carroll was there for a short time, too.
They did the grunt work, with low pay, to make Russell one of the safest communities in the United Sates with a population under 7,000.
Mr. Muller, there is no place for error and missions or favoritism in township government. Just plain poor judgment. This is wrong. Recognize all or none.
