Leora M. Knisel

Leora M. (nee McGee) Knisel, age 92, peacefully passed away on April 19, 2023, at Heather Hill Care Communities in Munson Township.

She was born Dec. 23, 1930, to Harry and Lillian (nee Burritt) McGee, in Shadyside, Ohio.

Leora married John A. Knisel on June 11, 1955, in Bellaire, Ohio. He preceded her in death on May 3, 2007. They lived in Collinwood before moving to Chardon in 1969.

She was the auditor for the Ohio Inspection Bureau for 14 years, worked for the former Diemand Corp. in the accounting department in Chardon for 11 years, and retired from Hillcrest Kiddie Prep School after 11 years of employment in 2000.

Mrs. Knisel was active in the Hambden Alliance Church, starting in the late 1990s. She played the violin and her late husband played the piano at Hambden Alliance and several churches in the area. Her life focused around the church and church activities.

She was an avid seamstress having made her own wedding gown.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, Marc (Donna) McGee, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Scot (Melanie) McGee, of Bellevue, Wash., Thomas McGee, of Orcutt, Calif., Faith Ann McGee, of Chula Vista, Calif., Brian James, of New Concord, Ohio, Dirk James (Jennifer), of New Concord, Ohio; and several great-nieces and great-nephews as well as great-great-nieces and great-great nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband, John A. Knisel; stillborn daughter in 1963; sister Jane Curtis; brother-in-law, Robert Curtis and sister Nancy James; and brothers, Francis, Harold, Harry Jr., and Raymond McGee.

The family will receive friends April 25, 2023, from 6-8 p.m., at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.

Funeral service will be held at 12 noon April 26, 2023, at the funeral home, with the interment to follow at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Township.

The family suggest donations be made to the Hambden Alliance Church, 9892 Old State Road, Chardon, OH 44024.
