The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office June 30 through July 6, 2023.
AGENCY ASSIST
July 3
6:57 p.m., Madison Road, Thompson. Officer requested a deputy. They are going to start removing people from town hall meeting. Deputy stood by to assist Thompson PD to keep the peace. None of residents became disorderly.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
July 3
5:37 p.m., Ravenna Road, Chardon. Out with a turtle on the road. Fairly large snapping turtle was assisted across the roadway.
CITIZEN DISPUTE
July 1
12:05 a.m., Clover Lake Drive, Newbury. Caller having a dispute with his ex-girlfriend. Took the wipers off his car. She is trying to leave. Caller is hanging on front of her car trying to stop her. No weapons and caller advised female has been drinking. Can hear male screaming get off my ankle. Female ran over caller with her car. She ultimately was arrested for DV, OVI, disorderly conduct and criminal damaging. Search warrant executed on vehicle.
July 4
7:51 p.m., Meadow Drive, Chardon. Intoxicated female came over to tell caller his rooster makes too much noise. Caller is upset the female was using the f word in front of his wife. Deputy spoke with female’s husband who stated she was intoxicated but not home, did go over there because she doesn’t like the loud rooster. He was advised to tell his wife to stay off caller’s property and leave caller alone.
FRAUD
July 5
5:28 p.m., Merritt Road, Munson. Complainant stated ex-girlfriend is impersonating him, creating multiple social media accounts using his name and making stuff up. Complainant advised it was a civil issue.
July 6
7:09 p.m., Kile Road, Montville. Caller and someone online exchanged explicit photos and now that person is trying to blackmail him. Caller advised he sent a nude photo to a person on Snapchat. It was later determined the profile was fake and the scammer requested money to prevent them from sending the photo to others. Caller did not sent any money and is not out any funds. Caller and his father wanted the matter documented.
HARASSMENT
July 2
10:34 p.m., Kinsman Road, Middlefield. Owners of the buggy are trying to get the buggy back. They are harassing the homeowners. Caller advised multiple intoxicated juveniles arrived at his residence to pick up their buggy. He told them to leave and they continued to cause an issue until he said GCSO was called. He will call back if they show back up without a sober person.
PURSUIT
June 30
1:41 a.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Attempt to stop motorcycle. No traffic, speeds around 80 mph. Passing St. Helen’s, speed around 90 mph. Stopping Burton Carpet. Offense speed 67 mph in a 45 mph zone. One male arrested and taken to jail.
SUSPICIOUS
July 2
3:35 p.m., Leader Road, Hambden. While handling a domestic dispute across the street male was observed smoking marijuana on his front porch. He was advised to put it out and follow his directions for his medical marijuana usage.
THEFT
July 1
12:51 p.m., Leggett Road, Montville. Someone just stopped and stole my dog, a male pit-mixed, 40 pounds, black in color. He is micro-chipped. Dog’s name is Cooper, 1 year old. Caller only heard the car, didn’t see it. Unknown direction of travel. Caller found dog on Clay Street and will meet at the house on Leggett. Unknown address of where the dog was found. Dog located on Clay.
WEAPON OFFENSE
July 4
5:29 p.m., Pinehurst Drive, Munson. Someone on Tall Pines is shooting and stray bullets are whizzing through the woods. Caller yelled through the woods and the shooting stopped. Shooting has started again, even closer to the house. Caller and family hiding in basement. Deputy sat in area for a while and did not see or hear any shots. Complainant advised to call if there are any other issues.
