Anona Bell Brewster

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Anona Bell (nee Gotham) Brewster, of Middlefield, at the golden age of 93. She was at peace and surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Oct. 8, 1929, in Parkman Township, to the late Lyle and Mabel (nee White) Gotham.

Anona married Charles Brewster in 1949 and they had four children together. Charles had a daughter, Judy Starr, from a previous marriage. Together, they raised their family in Parkman.

She took great joy and pride babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She would tell anyone who would listen how many grandchildren and great-grandchildren she had and took any opportunity to brag about them.

She loved attending school activities they were involved in and supporting them at their concerts and sporting events with her unique style of cheering.

She took great pride in remembering those close to her with thoughtful, handpicked cards for special occasions.

She was active in the community while working early on at White Brothers and The Post House, and for over 20 years in the Middlefield and Parkman post offices.

After retirement, she enjoyed working as a greeter at Ames and Wendy’s, where she brightened many people’s days. She was also proud of her 1,643 visitations to Curves.

Anona will be greatly missed by her children, Anthony (Tina) Brewster, Karen (Bill) Blue, Carol (John) Beran, Tim (Barb Theriot) Brewster and Judy Starr; grandchildren, Josh (Heather Baker) Brewster, Jodie (Jeff) Frates, Jared (Sheree) Brewster, Rose (John) Scott, Chris (Terra) Blue, Alissa (Mike) Arndt, Nathan (Abby) Blue, Jordan (Emily Sprankle) Blue, Chad Beran, Justin (Samantha) Brewster, Tim (Stephanie) Brewster Jr., Rob Starr, Nancy (Scott) Carlson, Kathy Starr, John (Lisa) Starr; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister Alma Kolm; and many other family members and friends.

Beside her parents and her husband, Charles, she was preceded in death by her fiancé, Jack Watson; brothers, John, Kelly, Glen, Neil, Leland Gotham; sister Lillian McDivitt; son-in-law, Don Starr; and many other loved ones.

Calling hours and a funeral service were held held Aug. 7, 2023, at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield, with Pastor Mike Continenza officiating.

She will be laid to rest at a later date at Overlook Cemetery in Parkman.

A heartfelt thank you for her special angels that helped take care of her: Tammy Reed, Barb King, Sally Koeth, Sandy Bitting and Mary Miller. We are forever grateful for all your help and support.  And, to the staff at Briar Hill and UH ICU doctors and nurses.

Memorial donations can be made in Anona’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. (http://www.stjude.org)
