State of the Schools

Chardon Schools hosted the Chardon Area Chamber of Commerce on Sept. 13 for the annual State of the Schools presentation, gallery walk and luncheon. Held in the high school gymnasium, the event showcased the district’s mission of high achievement for all students, solid financial position, capital improvements, strategic plan, Portrait of a Hilltopper characteristics, innovative academic programs and future readiness focus.

Chardon Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Melissa Ricco stated, “Thank you to the Chardon Local Schools staff, administration and students for another warm welcome at their engaging luncheon. It is wonderful to see firsthand why the Chardon Schools are ranked in the top 10-percent out of over 600 school districts in Ohio.”

The event was made possible through the coordinating efforts of Chamber leadership, including Mrs. Ricco and board President Susan Parker, as well as the collective teamwork of Chardon Schools staff and students.

To showcase workforce opportunities for business leaders, student speakers and representative administrators and faculty from each of the district’s five schools welcomed Chamber guests to their program booths to share information conversationally and provide demonstrations of cutting-edge equipment and school programs.

Superintendent Mike Hanlon stated, “We were pleased to partner with the Chardon Area Chamber of Commerce for this exceptional annual event of community connection and appreciated the opportunity to showcase Chardon Schools. Our students were simply amazing as they interacted with members of the community. Thank you to our staff and students for their energy, time and talent. It was yet another opportunity to be incredibly proud of everything that is happening in our district.”

Books Grant Keeps on Giving

Chardon Early Learning Center kindergarten classes continue to reap the benefits of a Chardon Schools Foundation grant awarded in 2022 to expand the classroom libraries with VOX books. The books feature built-in readers and are designed to boost student vocabulary while retaining the tactile experience of reading a book.

Kindergarten teacher Jenny Maheu shared that her class learned how to use and listen to the books this month for the first time this school year.

Mrs. Maheu stated, “This amazing resource from the Chardon Schools Foundation is continuing to enrich student learning.”
