The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Sept. 8 -14, 2023.
911 PROBLEM
Sept. 10
4:35 p.m., Munn Road, Auburn. Hang up 911 call. Upon call back, spoke with what sounded like a child who advised: “You have the wrong number.” Child was unwilling to to put an adult on the phone and disconnected. Deputy responded and learned 8 year old male called 911 while playing with the phone. Adult brother was advised.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
Sept. 13
2:26 p.m., Mulberry Road, Highland View Drive. Munson. Sick fox is walking around intersection. Deputy tried unsuccessfully to catch fox with catchpole. With children soon to get off the bus, deputy had to dispatch fox.
FRAUD
Sept. 11
3:59 p.m., Kevin Lane, Hambden. Came to lobby to report they clicked on a website, called the number and were advised by a fake government agent with an Indian accent to take $10,000 from their bank and deposit it in a bitcoin account. They did send the $10K. Advice given to fill out FBI cyber fraud complaint. State information on license her license was compromised as well.
INTOXICATED PERSON
Sept. 12
11:19 p.m., Newcomb Road, Middlefield. Caller says that his son in his 40s is bothering his wife. Son is drunk. Male is not violent, just harassing for more beer. Female says he grabbed her neck, but not hard. Caller says son had about 30 beers. Male in background denies it. Caller now says about 20 beers. Son lives with them. Went up to bedroom for a moment, walking around house with a cigarette.
SUSPICIOUS
Sept. 8
6:57 p.m., Mayfield Road, Dollar General, Huntsburg. Caller advised she works at the Dollar General and stopped there to grab something. She walked outside and saw a male masturbating and cat calling her. Caller got into her vehicle and he got into his vehicle and followed caller.
Sept. 9
12:31 a.m., Downey Glen Trail, Auburn. People in the yard. Caller did not know how many people there were. No vehicles can be seen. Ongoing drone issue. Met with caller. Caller told me he found a mangled fish from his pond and his solar lights in the front all went out. He thinks someone is messing with him. He pointed out a bright object that he thought was a drone. I believed that it was a star. He showed me some of his camera footage and it appeared to be scrambled. He told me whoever is flying the drone is messing with his camera. Told me he does not feel safe. I told him I would sit in the area for a while and see if they come back. The area was monitored and nothing was observed.
Sept. 11
8:10 p.m., Thompson Road, Thompson. Tree limb in one lane and a boot in the other lane. Callers husband kicked them out of the roadway and heard kids laughing in the woods. This has been happening all summer by teenagers in the area. They usually do this around dusk, on the corner by the curve. Caller saw three boys last week putting sticks and boots in the roadway and they moved when she beeped her horn at them.
THEFT
Sept. 11
7:55 p.m., Old State Road, Middlefield. Caller states John’s Country Nursery found his cat and posted it online. A woman from Streetsboro came and claimed the cat. Caller believes person who resides in Streetsboro may have mistakenly taken his cat. Has a similar cat with exception of caller’s cat having a cut left ear and different pattern on its forehead. Called back stating (Streetsboro) texted them to come get their cat.
THREATENING
Sept. 11
9:35 p.m., Chardon Windsor Road, Hambden. An 8 year old student stated that a 7 year ld student from Munson Elementary stated that they were going to bring a gun to school and shoot the other child in the eye. Contact was made with parents, guns are secure, child will not go to school until the Principal sets up a meeting.
