Jordan Johnson ran for four touchdowns on Oct. 13th to lead the Hawken Hawks to a 40-20 victory over the Chagrin Falls Tigers at CS Harris Stadium.

Johnson, the junior standout running back who also plays in the secondary on defense for the Hawks, now has eight touchdowns over the last two games.

In fact, on the season Johnson now has 17 total touchdowns through the first nine games.

After the contest, Johnson talked about the game and scoring four touchdowns.

“It was good to get on the win column, but we always need to go back to the board and look for things to get better at,” said Johnson.

“The first three touchdowns, my team strung a couple good drives together,” Johnson said.

“We pushed it down the field, we got some run plays, we got some pass plays and for the last one we were beating them by quite a lot, and we were supposed to get into our four minute drill and I just found a hole and just worked through it.”

Hawken second year head coach Mark Iammarino, the long-time Chagrin Falls head football coach, talked about the contributions that Johnson provides to the success of the Hawks football program.

“He’s electric,” said Iammarino.

“The thing that he can do is he can take that three yard run and turn it into a 70-yard run. That’s the breakaway (speed) that is so dangerous for him.”

“I think he has done a good job this year of not trying to take everything to the house. Just know where you runs are, know where your blocking is and when those runs open up he’s going to outrun most db’s.”

In this week nine matchup with Chagrin Falls, Johnson started quickly as he got the Hawks on the scoreboard early in the first quarter with a 4-yard touchdown run.

Chagrin Falls then scored later in the first quarter on a Drew Zelch touchdown pass to Cayden Vilneff to make the score 7-6.

In the second quarter, sophomore quarterback Donovan Moorehead connected with freshman wide receiver Charlie Mallett on a touchdown pass as Hawken took a 14-6 lead. The touchdown catch was Mallett’s twelfth touchdown reception of the season.

Jordan Johnson then scored his second touchdown of the night with 3:39 left in the first half to give the Hawks a 20-6 lead over the Tigers.

After halftime, both Hawken and Chagrin Falls scored third quarter touchdowns.

Hawken scored first on senior captain Luke Mangini’s 21-yard touchdown run. The touchdown was Mangini’s sixth touchdown of the season.

Hawken then scored a third quarter touchdown on Drew Zelch’s 8-yard touchdown run.

In the fourth quarter, Hawken added 14 points on two more touchdown runs by Johnson.

Johnson scored his third touchdown on an 8-yard touchdown-run with 11:25 left in the game.

Johnson’s fourth touchdown was a 67-yard touchdown run with 9:02 left in the game as Hawken took a 40-13 lead.

Chagrin Falls scored a final touchdown late in the fourth quarter on a 7-yard run by quarterback Jacob Kay, to make the final score 40-20.

Hawken will next face Perry on Oct. 20 while Chagrin Falls also will play Lutheran West.
